Do Experian prequals mean anything?

I get my free monthly CR from Experian and whenever I login it says "You're prequalified for such and such". Before I got Credit One and other garbage. Today I got Disco, a couple Cap1 (including Venture One), and a couple Amex (including PRG).

Do these prequals really mean anything or are they little more than ads?

My personal experience is they don't mean anything. I'm recommended currently for a card I know I have zero chance of getting. With that said, both Discover and CapOne let you prequalify on their sites. Those are much more trustworthy.

I would just take it as marketing, with my profile i qualify for an Amex on CK. Salt anyone??
