My chapter 13 falls off in march. I have already did a EE with TransUnion. I just tried to apply for a checking account with Chase online and they wouldn't allow me to open one. I called them earlier this year and it may be due to a OD checking account for $100 back in 2011 I wasn't aware of that was included in my BK? The phone rep said I could into a branch to open a checking acct. I just went to Chase online and checked my offers for pre approvals from credit cards and several popped up. I'm wondering how accurate that is, or I should wait until march when the BK drops off my EQ And EXP reports?
my prepaprovals that popped up are freedom flex, freedom unlimited, slate edge, sapphire preferred and southwest rapid rewards.
I never had a Chase credit card and really want to get in but don't want to trigger anything if my BK is still reporting.
typically those style of pre-approval offers with the green star are pretty solid, but there's no telling if you'll face a denial if they decide to pull TU + Experian, see the BK on experian (or elsewhere) and decide to deny based on that info
going in branch to open a checking would be helpful
no way to know for sure other to apply, but if your BK falls off in just three months, I'd personally just wait.
I'm waiting for ~4 months for 5/24 reasons myself and I know the temptation when it comes to wanting to apply now

I mean, I don't really need the checking account but was going to try to open one just to have that relationship with them again. But the credit cards are definitely what I'm after. Maybe I'm just being impatient and having to wait for the next 2-3 months before the BK is completely clear from all my reports. I guess that it is promising that at least pre approved offers are showing up now
A BK7 reporting is a known senario where Chase may show a preapproval but a followup application will by policy be denied and a recon will be unsuccessful. If yo wait until the BK7 is no longer being reported before applying you will at least have a shot of an approval upon recon.

I think you should wait until your EQ and EX scores catch up with your TU score.

the algorithms are more generous this time of year because in general @waltz4aidan folks use credit more.
however chase tends to pull only exp and eq. mostly exp. I'd wait if I were you. once you are 670+ with a pre approval, then go for it. it completely sucks. Im in the same situation with some 30 day lates. from 5-6 years ago.
