Can someone who only has AU history on credit cards (for about 8 months) be approved for a Barclay card (Rewards or Sallie Mae)? Or does Barclay like to see primary cardholder usage for 6 months to a year?
I'm trying to help someone apply for Barclay but don't want them to waste their HP if they don't have to. THey are pre-approved for the Chase Freedom so they can go that route if they need to establish primary cardholder usage. THey are also pre-approved for Cap 1 QS1 and Platinum, but I figured that they'd get more mileage on the Freedom.
Their scores are in the high 600s and 0 inquiries across the board.

In my experience it is possible to trick the computer with only AU accounts, however if declined and needing of recon, then Barclays is going to say they would like to see your own accounts and how you handle them. Not an AU account. I suggest they go the Chase route and then if they want Barclays in 6+ mos.

Thanks Skye! This is exactly the route I suggested and what I hope will work. Their Freedom was approved for 3.5K so we'll see what happens come December or January!

Make sure to hit the "Kudos" button (stripe with the star) next to Skye's name. That was a very helpful response and this is a small way to show your gratitude.
Best bet would be to go for the ones they are pre-qualified for.
