Does anyone know if BOA approve credit cards with a soft pull only?

I recently applied for the Bank of America credit card with rewards. All three of my reports are locked as I would prefer to unlock them as needed. I did not know which report would be pulled as I assumed I would receive a call or email stating to open it just as HSBC reached out for my Equifax report. I unlocked my Equifax report and mailed over my ID and was approved (HSBC) three weeks later. As for BOA, i received an email from the credit bureau stating that Transunion blocked an inquiry. Two days later the new account posted to my BOA online account. I havent received the card yet but was wondering was this based off of a soft pull? Has anyone else experienced this? I do have a checking and savings account with them as well.

Did you already have credit with BofA? I believe lenders can HP through a freeze if you already have credit with them (I'm sure they can SP through a freeze if you already have credit with them).

BoA historically would only approve a new tradeline without a HP if they had already pulled an HP for a different permissable purpose within the last 30 days.    I would tread lightly with them for the next several weeks as they have been known to occasionally close new tradelines a few weeks after opening that upon internal review were determined to have been opened in error.

I've had credit with them but that account has been closed for years now. I just remembered I completed a pre approval or pre qualify link a few weeks ago at the time I didn't go through with it although I was recommended a product but i forgot to do it again for this application.

BoA "preapprovals" are not really preapprovals but are marketing-driven invitations to apply unless extended to you online through the Special Offers & Deals section of their online

Did you check you report to make sure there aren't any new hard pulls from BofA? From your wording, I assume TU told you they blocked an inquiry, but nothing more (as in who made the inquiry). It is possible that the blocked inquiry was from another FI and the freeze was just doing it's job (protecting you from identity theft).

Uhm, when you apply for credit , you need to have your reports available for the lender to access so keeping them locked in hopes they will tell you what is needed first is not the way to go. Many lenders will deny your app if they cant  access a report and just to be clear,  trying to force lenders to pull certain reports isnt permitted here and is a bad practice. I know you didnt do this but just want anyone reading not to take that idea from your post as if it came scross my mind while reading, certainly it could someone else.

Best advise is to understand what bureaus your lender is prone to use but even then, if you are really interested in applying for a card, unlock your reports before applying to give fsir access then close them after. Just mho.

That's typical but not 100% and as an example they HP'd TU back in February for my MLB card.

Back when they did TU hard pulls for CLI requests they would reuse the HP if you also applied for a CC within 30 days.
