For a while, I have been looking to apply for the Chase Sapphire Reserve first and eventually complete the trifecta. However, after having a discussion with all the wonderful people here, I am now leaning towards getting American Express Charles Schwab Platinum and Business Blue Plus together at same time. I do have schwab account for this. I realized Chase does not like thin profiles so I rather not risk applying (I could not even get the chase freedom with this profile, recon would not budge having tried 3 times!). Instead I will just aim for the Amex combo because I do need it very soon.
Here's the current profile
Estimated income~$50k
Discover FicoScore 764
2 or 3 inquiries in the last 12 months (depending on whichever one was pulled)
I checked the Amex prequalify page and they spat out these 3 cards for me:
None of those were the 2 that I wanted! Should I still apply for the Amex Platinum charles schwab and the business blue plus? If so, how should I go about this- any specific fine details on how to manuver through this or anything I need to be aware of?
I don't know if this is stupid alternate solution or if I should try again with Chase and wait it out...
Do you know your Experian FICO? In this instance, I don't think the order of the application matters with Amex. Do you purchase airfare often/fly often?
When is the last time you tried with Chase?
Only possible issue you may run into is if you have a high debt to income ratio. Still, if you have a pre-qualification for a PRG then you shouldn't have any problems getting a Plat of any flavor. And I don't think you'll have a problem getting a BBP either.
Edit: I missed your part about not having any past or active loans. I think you're good to go.
Unfortunately, I don't have any cards that give me an Experian score. Citi's Equifax score that I got was 743. For this year, I'll be flying international at least 3 more times. I last attempted Chase last month haha.
Assuming your EX score is in the same ballpark, a preapproval for a PRG will likely net an approval for the Schwab Platinum card. Just note (I'm sure you've already accounted for this.) a dual approval will put you at 5/24 with Chase until that Discover ages or that AU account is removed.
I'm curious was the Discover reporting your current CL when you applied for the Freedom?
Also, creditchecktotal will give you an Experian score with its free trial. Just make sure to cancel it. Or you can get your reports here.
Yes, thank you for the reminder about 5/24. My original plan was that I left 2 slots open on purpose for Chase. However, I can't even get in the door with a card with less strict requirements. So I'll just move to amex instead. And yes, that was my limit at the time of application for discover. I check chase pre-qualification page again- shows absolutely nothing. I'm surprised because my profile is as clean as it can be, never had any derogatories. Well, I will just pull the trigger for the Amex combo when I'm ready!
