Re: FNBO Do I Dare?

The Prequal tool is not a guarantee but the mailer may be a go. There's a huge thread here on FNBO.  ✔️ it out for DPs.

Re: FNBO Do I Dare?

Do you think I should apply from the mailer or the prequal then?

Read the mailer very carefully as the exact phrasing is relevant to what exactly it is that they are offering you.

approval > pre-approval > pre-qualifiication > offer to apply

Fixed APR quoted?  Opt-out language?

Any relevant changes to your credit history in the last couple of months?  Inquiries/new accounts/increases in balances?

Re: FNBO Do I Dare?

The mailer is far from a guarantee either.  My husband has gotten it a number of times over the years (we have a lightly used bank account with them and live in the geographical area).  Denied every time that he applied from it.

So, no fixed APR listed and no language indicating that it's anything other than an offer to apply.   If that's the case its peak value is fodder for the shredder and if you decide to apply it should be via the online prequal.

Note that there have been enough data points to show that the prequal is not 100% reliable.   Some members applied and were denied outright, others were approved but with a much lower starting limit that the prequal had suggested.

Re: FNBO Do I Dare?

It sounds like the mailer was for a different card as well.  I would guess that with all the DP's, the online prequal is at least 75% approvals.  You may have to jump through a hoop or two or it could be an instant answer.  It is worth a HP for a chance at a great, no-nonsense 2% card IMO.
