FNBO Pre-Qualification

My wife Prequalified about a week and a half ago for thier lowest rate and max SL of 15K.

She opened a Chase Amazon and Citi CC cards and then rechecked the prequal site 2 days later and was still prequalified for the same amount and APR.

Application went to review and then a few days later she was denied.

Fico8 scores right around 800 and she only opened those 2 cards in the past 12 months.

Still think it was due to the 2 VERY recent new cards.

Now the prequalify site only shows her the Secured Card.

I still show 17.99% at 15K for the Evergreen and 18.99% at 15K for the Getaway but I already have a couple of 2% cards and I don't trust them after my DW denial.

Re: FNBO Pre-Qualification

Same exact thing happened to me. Was prequalified for their evergreen. I checked several times while preparing for a mini app spree. All within about 30 minutes, I got a few cards, then went to their prequal site and it only showed me the secured card. I've been checking like once a week since then just to see if anything's changed (I don't want it anymore) but it's still only showing secured.

Re: FNBO Pre-Qualification

It makes sense that they be prudent with very recent Inquiries. For my DW I will just have her wait about 3 months before trying again.

Re: FNBO Pre-Qualification

Well it's been 2 months since the denial and the prequal is now showing preapproval of 15K @ 17.84%.

Does she dare risk it?

That decision rests entirely up you and/or DW. If her profile doesn't show any inherent signs that could place her on the AA radar (profile-specific of course) and if you both find decent value with this particular card, then you can use the YOLO approach. It all boils down to risk tolerance.

Hopefully, the outcome is positive this time, but definitely keep us posted.
