I bit the bullet and app'ed for Amex. I got the "we are processing you'll hear in 14 days" message. So I called to check the status and I was told I would be getting information sent to me to verify my income...a letter and a form I may need to fill out.
Is this normal? what will I need to provide so I can have it ready? Does this mean I might actually get approved?
oh, EX fico is 660.....which I know is VERY borderline and I have some baddies which I know don't look good!

No, but they can pick and choose who they do that to. As long as you have paperwork to back the income provided, you will likely get approved. If it is a denial, they will tell you straight up.

It's kind of weird they would require income verfication right off the bat, did you put some crazy amount for income and they want to make sure you really made that much.
I included my husbands income as well because it said you can include all income you have access to. That was my first time every including his and now I feel like I shouldn't have. It was an honest number of our combined income, actually probably a little low. But I am concerned if they pull taxes because we both started new jobs in the last 5-6 months that is not reflected in tax returns...so it will look like it was untrue. I can supply paystubs that show the amount I put, just not near that ballpark on taxes.
Only time I recall seeing this in the past is someone that burned them before.. Not saying you did this, but remember reading something about income verification being pay stubs from this person and bank statments, but not the tax form.. I guess they can request it if they would like though and you can choose to provide it or not.. As long as you were honest and don't mind letting them dive into your Tax Return then you should be approved. Alot of assumptions here, but assuming it is the 4506 form.

If you both just started new jobs within the last 5-6 months then it may not be a very accurate picture.
nope...never had an Amex in my whole life. Unless you count the Serve card I had years ago!

@Anonymous,
I think your best bet is once you receive the form or before, call Amex and tell them what you just said and see if they are OK with paystubs. All the best and will keep fingers crossed for you. Keep us posted..
They asked the for the same from me.I applied for my first Amex ED card and was approved with a $5000 limit. They asked me to fill out a form online giving them permission to request a copy of my most recent tax returns. I gave it to them and within a few days I was approved.
