First "real" card after being an AU

Hi all,

I added my SO to my Chase Freedom a few months ago and it's finally showing up on credit.com and other sites (though still no luck with creditkarma--I assume Transunion is the slowest to take note of these). This is his first card in the US since we moved here only a few years ago. The question is what should be the next step for him. The Freedom credit line is 4,000, I PIF every month, utilization is low and although I opened it only a year ago I guess his score should be pretty good.

Any ideas what his chances of approval are for good rewards cards/cards with no foreign transaction fee?

Thanks!

Have him apply for his own Freedom?

Yes, that could be an option... but would that help his score? I was not sure it would make any difference. We also discussed going for the CSP because he has considerable savings with Chase but that might be a long shot at this stage.

I would choose a midlevel card or a Discover card first to see how it works on the first try.  Then I would try for a good rewards card like Salle Mae or BCP.  After that I would try for the Quicksilver card since it has no FTF and that could benefit him when he travels back home.

Side note...  Was it hard to bring him over here?  You can PM me if you wish about that.  I want to bring my SO over next year!

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.....
Always follow these rules: Only take a HP for a new account. Always use the best rewards card for that reward category. Don't close a card unless you know you really should. Never use more than 35% of a credit limit. Recon as much and as best you can. Use the introductory period to the best advantage. Get the signup bonus. Whenever possible PIF or balance transfer so you pay less in interest. Never give an excellent rating when it is actually the norm. Always look for a discount as more is always better.
Always accept candy from strangers because they have the best candy or from people you know have good candy.

Thanks for the info on the Quicksilver, I did not know it has no FTF!
