Forgot about pending Pen Fed App - Auto and CC question

As part of my app spree I forgot I also applied for a Pen Fed membership.  I answered one of the online identity verification questions wrong, so they asked me to call in to verify identity the next day.  I did and after verifying the info. they placed me on hold for over 10min.  After she came back online she apologized for the length of time it took, because at first they could not find any credit history?  Huh?  She realized that I most likely I did have some credit history at my age (over 50), so she had them look again and when he looked further they found what they needed.

I asked if they pulled my credit report and she was vague and said she didn't know (?, yeah right), then I asked which file they usually pull.  She told me EQ, which is my highest score (707) and the only bureau NONE of the other credit cards or car loans pulled so I have zero HPs with them.  They approved me for membership, so i asked them about refinancing my car loan (that's why I applied to begin with) but they were only able to offer 3.25% and I'm currently at 3.99% so I'm not sure if it's worth it over a 48month loan for 12,000+ dollars???  I'm not good with numbers but I'm guessing it's only going to save me a few hundred IF even that much?  So probably not worth the time?

Now after the fact, I'm wondering when they couldn't find any credit, did they use a SP then try a HP or did they do a HP and then HP all 3 bureaus?

I didn't intent to apply for a CC with them, but since they probably ended up doing a HP (other wise how could she have quoted me an APR for an auto refinance?), should I go ahead and pull the trigger for a CC.  For EQ it's my only inquiry on there....

I'm also thinking they may not have seen any credit because they may not qualify an AU account as my credit?  Other than my DH's AU account, I had two retail cards and Care Credit and that was it before this app spree in January where I got an AMEX (BCE), Discover it, Amazon Store card and Wayfair which puts me at over $30K in avail credit.  Most likely they will give me the "pyramid" answer and I don't need another CC, thought it would be nice to have 3 regular well known CC vs retail.....I don't know.  I just hate to see an HP wasted....

PenFed will hard pull Experian for membership.  The hard pull is valid for 90 days (although I've seen recent comments that its been reduced to 60 days).  If you apply for any credit products within 60/90 days they will use the original pull so it doesn't have to go to waste.

LOL...don't know how I made that mistake Smiley Happy.  My apologies.

I should know because PenFed pulled my Equifax just on Saturday prior to approving a Power Cash Rewards card.  The only 2 pulls on my EQ are both from PenFed.

Not sure about the other questions but as far as the refinance goes it would save you about $355. Not sure if that's worth your time or not. You can probaly just make bigger payments on the loan you currently have, to pay it off sooner, and not risk another HP over a few hundred bucks.
