Gamestop not currently accepting applications.....

I don't know if this belongs here, but I was thinking since Black Friday is coming, and a lot of people are going to be buying video games, etc., that I should post here. My hubby decided to apply for Gamestop to buy our son's Christmas gift. He first went to the store and they told him to sign up for the free rewards program, and then go to their website and apply for credit. However, upon getting all the way through the application, it would not submit. He tried it about five times, and finally called them to find out what was going on. They told him that the application will not submit and they are not currently taking applications for the Gamestop card. They couldn't tell him anything else. The guy in the store told us that there was problems with a lot of the accounts they gave out in the first year, that a lot of customers had run up their cards and then didn't pay which is why they stopped taking applications in the store, so I guess that could be why they are not taking applications.

or they could be getting rid of the card all together, or another lender could be taking it over....hard to tell whats going on until we hear it officially

I have the card...and have used it a couple times...but I dont know if I even plan on keeping it. I have had the account for about a year and a half and was orginally approved for $600 (and was told that this is actually a high approvial amount for this card?). I have yet to receive any kind of CLI on this account...and I have checked multiple times. I would not be too upset that they are not taking applications on the card as you are not missing out on much!

Bummer. If you are just after games it seems like the best buy program along with American Express spend 200 get 25 is the way to go. I was going to get the GameStop card this summer so that stepson could start credit but I will just add him on a regular Card somewhere

I would venture that most people who have the Gamestop card probably don't have an Amex, like myself.

Thats crazy. They have been sending me pre-approval notices for months. I would never get a Gamestop credit card EVER - but still.

In fact I just found the last offer they sent me from November 2nd:

I have the gamestop credit card, and I have two american express cards...

I love games and a gamer, but quite honestly no offense to people that have the card it is pure garbage if you have anything else that you can possibly use such as a QS which should have simliar UW criteria.  Rewards stink on it.  I actually had the card for four months until I came to my senses and cancelled it after I realized what it was as far as rewards, apr and praying IMO on young people that will ruin alot of their credit when they cannot afford to pay. Just seems predatory to me aiming at young people (I am not young either, just a kid at heart).. Anyways if you have a 1% even use it instead of this card!

Thanks for sharing.  I've also been tring endlessly and went to the store to inquire.  I was told that you can only apply if invited to do so.  i.e. an email saying you are pre approved or if you get the SCT when attempting to check out.  Can't cold apply.  Stnks because i was thinking same thing.  I wanted to apply and have the card handy for xmas but I guess I'm going to have to go without gamestop.  Oh well, their loss.

Interesting, My buddy tried to apply for the card a couple of times and he was turned down because they weren't taking any applications so this has been that way for some time now.

Personally I've had mine since october of last year which started at $350 and is now $1550, hopefully $1950 in the next 2-3 days. I only got it because it was offered to me in store via pre-approval like 4 months after I got my secured card and started looking to rebuild. Didn't even know what SCT at the time was but ended up getting my J-Crew a month later.
