General cap one question

Hi all,

Looking for advice on how long to wait before applying for an unsecured cap one card. I would like one more credit card to optimize my scores. I have a secured cap one card and have been approved for a second secured cap one card but dont really want to tie up more money in secured cards. I have had my current secured card for 2 months now.

My wife had her Cap1 secured for 6-7 months at which Cap 1 gave her a $300 cli on her secured card. She apped the other night after checking the prequal site and got a QS1 with $500 sl. Her scores are not that great either, high 500s low 600s.

I had my secured card for over a year before applying for the qs1, never got a cli on my secured card so I closed it the other day.

Just a little note.. 

The prequal site for Discover isn't that reliable though. She was prequalified for Discover IT, apped and instantly denied.

Called to recon.... denied, asked if anything else she could do, Student or secured card, they offered the secure card which has the same exact benefits as the Discover IT.

Thanks for the info, I have been using the pre qualify website but cant match me to anything. I am running alot of money through the card so i would really like something with rewards. I know the discover it secured has rewards but you have to be invited to apply.

If your scores are strong enough I would suggest going for the Quicksilver, however, you are at their max with having two of their lower products.  There are a couple of off brand capital one cards, such as GM BUY POWER, SONY REWARDS AND UAW CARDS.

Well i was approved for the second secured card but i havent sent in the deposit.

fako according to credit karma 540 and 533. 509 for experian.

I would wait 6 mos before applying.

+1 I'd wait. In all likelihood your true FICO scores are probably lower. I honestly don't believe you'll be approved for unsecured card. I'll bet they'll only give you secured, if anything. Sorry. Just my opinion.

With your scores some have been approved with the QS1, but you have pulled the app for teh second secured card.  They only allow two products in their low tier cards.  I would give it some more time and allow your scores to go up.
