So I know that Chase does allow people to open up new accounts by transfering some of their credit from other Chase cards to open up new accounts. I am currently sitting right at 5/24 and I was wondering if I'd be able to get around the 5/24 rule (specifically for the Chase Freedom Unlimited to go with my Sapphire Preferred) by transfering some of my existing Chase credits to open up a CFU account? My guess is the system will auto deny it so I'd have to call the recon line to see if their underwriting would override it. Does anyone have any data points on this?
I was more like 1/24 but Chase denied me for the United Explorer card which was a bit of surprise with FICO 8 scores around 820. Called recon and they were willing to approve if I transfered CL from an existing card (I had three at the time). I only had about 25k total CL with them, and they have been plenty generous with CLI since then and I'm over 60k CL with Chase now.
Ya I figured you being at 1/24 helped. But I am currently sitting at 5/24 so does anyone else have data points of opening a new account with existing credit while sitting at or about 5/24?
When it comes to getting approved with minimum approval this is what will happen. Any amount they are willing to add will be made available first. If that is still not enough the computer will pick a card and move any required credit line remaining if possible. If it still does not have enough for the minimum SL for a product they will just deny you. As for 5/24 it is fairly automated and before any credit line attempts to be issued. I know I once applied and was exactly 5/24 and maybe about to be 4/24 and the computer let me through but that was on the edge. If your over then the computer will pretty much deny you without a human looking at the application. Moving CL's around will not save you from having too many new accounts. Be aware that if you apply somewhere that gives you an inquiry and a denial then that doesn't count. Only new accounts that show up matter.
there are anecdotal reports of people being auto approved for mostly co branded cards with Chase think Amazon Prime Visa and I think I did read one or two where people were 7/24 and got approved instantly, but there's a 95% chance if you are at 5/24 or higher, you won't get it. I haven't reconned an app with Chase in years and don't really bank with them/use their cards any more, but I might in the next 6 mos to a year if I get a great offer.
Good luck! If you have low inquiries on EXP and you are right at 5/24 and maybe freeze EQ and TU, you might be able to pull it off. Ima put you at a 70% chance. lol
It should autodeny due to 5/24 but Chase does occasionally have undisclosed small windows of opportunity where the autobot doesn't strictly enforce 5/24.
The other thing is if whether or not you're really at 5/24; if for example if one of those 5 is an a card where you're just an AU an analyst can on at their discretion if calling in to request a reconsideration choose to ignore it and if all other factors are satisfactory approve the card, and non-Chase business cards that aren't reporting don't actually count toward 5/24 either.
So far every single thing I've done with Chase has been through a rep (CLI new cards). So my guess is the computer would auto deny me. So my question is if I go through the rep. Would they approve me for the CFU even though I'm at 5/24 if I move over existing credit.
I'm currently sitting at 5/24 so I'm wondering if I can get the rep to open the account if I transfer existing credit.
