Getting impatient on BOA CLI but don't want to get denied.

Sorry, not my first thread on this. I'm just dreading getting a denial.

99/500 Secured Card.
8 Months old. No baddies with them.

TU FICO JUST started going up again after taking the advice on this forum to pay in full before the statement cut.  I'm in the low 600's and opening a checking account with a different bank recentlly dropped me into the cringe-worthy 500's that I climbed out of.

It's still my only card which I know is bad.

And it's a toy limit which is also bad.

BOA's Fico updates for me in 3 weeks. That just seems too long to wait for another Fico jump. Smiley Sad

I just got another Discover offer in the mail (been getting them ever since opening this BOA card) but I searched  and it seems hit or miss. Some only got a $150-$300 limit which makes me cringe. I think I should build up BOA first. But when? When I'm at least at 650?

Khols is the only other card that slightly interests me but not if it's going to hurt my chances getting a BOA CLI so I was waiting until after before trying it in store.

Minimum Discover card limit is $500, unless you get Secured, which is lower.

Yeah, I'm likely not eligible yet for unsecured.

Re: Getting impatient on BOA CLI but don't want to get denied.

My first BofA card was a secured card also. After 1 year of on time payments, it was graduated and I recieved 1500 increase. 8 months may seem long but it isn't. BofA also likes to see scores in the 700's (from my experience) to be considered for a cli. Having only one credit line reporting is to your disadvanage. Have you considered Capitl one prequal to see if you prequalify for one of thier cards?

I agree Op if you are at 650 you can get approved for unsecured products now , try Cap one first . Also would recommend a local credit union.

BOA countered me with the 99/500 offer due to young credit history even though I am in ~750s. I took the offer after doing a little research.

A couple of weeks ago my tenth statement cut and I received this letter

shortly thereafter. I only used the card a couple of times and paid in full before statement cut. Be a little patient and BOA will grow with you.

I agree - be patient. This is probably one of the better secured (well, partially secured in this case) cards out there... Mine unsecured after 5 months, YMMV, but, wait it out, your day will come, and it is worth it

NFCU $60.4k/PenFed $22.5k/Commerce $15K/53 $11K/Synovus $14K/BBT $11K/CapOne $12K/DCU $7.5K/BMO $7.5K/Chase $14.5k/Cabelas $10K/ and many many more!
Total CL $398600, plus car and RV loan.
Ooh. Ooh. Getting closer to that $500K mark!

Did your card unsecure automatically at 5 months or did you call in and request that it be unsecured?

I realize that your question was not for me but I actually called and talked to a rep. She asked me a few questions..got put on hold for a minute or two and she came back and told that my card was now unsecured and then told me my new CL. It was pretty simple..

Wow, that's awesome.

I just started paying in full before statement cut so I'm expecting another jump at the end of the month. I was doing it backwards by paying in full after to show usage. I guess that's the way Ficos used to be.
