@Jordan23ww wrote:I applied for the US Bank Shoppers Cash Rewards card Saturday. Instantly got the 7-10 day message that they needed more time to review my application and if more documents are needed they'd contact me by letter. Today I saw online a number to check application status. Called and the rep said it was denied for having too many inquiries. They pulled Equifax which is the bureau where I have the most inquiries. Prior to applying I had 4 in the last 12 months. I thanked the rep and politely ended the call.
After hanging up I didn't like how I left things. So I called back and got a different rep and explained that I was told I was denied for too many inquiries by another rep and could my application possibly be reconsidered based on my relationship with them and my history with my Cash Plus card. They said we can take a look at it. They said well you actually don't have too many inquiries on here. I took that as a good sign.
They said however you got a limit increase on your Cash Rewards card within the last year and that probably is playing a bigger factor in the denial than the inquiries. I got a $5000 limit increase 10 months ago. I volunteered if I reduce the limit on the Cash Plus card would that make a difference? They said that it might. They paused for a moment then said you know what since you're right on the edge I will resubmit this application to be considered again. It should take 2 to 3 days! I confirmed whether I should wait on a letter from them or call back in 3 days. They said it is up to me, I can do either choice and if I don't call back eventually I will get a letter.
I need some positive vibes because I would love to get this card! It would fill the last hole in my card setup (Walmart and Target) where I spend a lot but am only getting 2%. I'm hoping my relationship so far with US Bank for the last 16 months and my positive credit profile is enough to overturn the denial. I always use my Cash Plus each month and pay it in full. I hope to update this thread in a few days with some positive news!
Let's goooooooo!!!! Looks like my reconsideration was a success! I have been logging on to my account off and on today to see if there was any updates! Last time I logged in about 2 hours ago there was nothing. Just logged on and now I see 2 cards with different limits! My Cash+ and then the other card which doesn't display a picture but the limit is $15,000! I'm so glad I didn't just take no for an answer! This was my first time doing a reconsideration and it was a huge success!

If any mod is seeing this I was curious, is there a way to reclassify this thread as a "Credit Card Approval" or should I just make a new post detailing my approval? There doesn't seem to be many posts on the forum about US Bank Shopper Cash approvals/applications so I'd like to add my experience to the Credit Card Approvals section in case it may help others.

The moral of this posting (as it came out)- Never ever give up...There is nothing wrong to request for the reconsideration but politely.
