Hi All,
It's been some time since I've been on here -
I currently have both the gold & purple reserve skymiles card, from Delta/AMEX.
Gold - starting limit was 10k. got to 30k after 60 days with the 3x method. instant approval.
Reserve - Starting limit was 15k. Got this nearly 2 months ago.
- Have spent 26k so far across both cards in the year of 2022. Also booking many upcoming trips.
Fico Score: 730
TU: 637 (random big drops and increases the last few months, with "no changes").
- Have had credit for 9 years.
- 100% payment history
- 10 total accounts
- No derogatory marks ever.
- Always on-time payments in full (For AMEX at least).
It's now been 181 days since my 30k request on the gold. For everyone's experience, who have big limits on these cards, what would you say is the success rate, if I were to ask for another 3x on the gold? Or even 50-60k? I am aware I am most likely to be hit with a form 1045-c. My income I have no issue proving/providing, but what is the actual chance I get such a higher limit on this card?
Or shall I now focus my efforts on the Reserve, if IDK maybe they have thresholds for each card? Considering the reserve is the higher tier card compared to the gold. With regards to my TU score and explanation, would that be a major factor in me potentially being declined?
Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you!

I think it makes more sense to go for the CLI on the card which has the lower limit. You can always move part of the credit limit later. Amex makes it easy to do that.

I'd agree with this.
Also, the form you'd be asked to authorize would normally be a 4506-C, at this point in time for your 2020 and 2019 federal tax returns. A form 1045 is used to expedite a tax refund under some very specific circumstances.
Thank you!
Yeah idk why I said 1045, but thanks nonetheless! 🤣
Do you recommend doing the 3x from the current 15k, or playing it safe on asking for just 30? Not seeing any user experience here with huge limits on these cards, so I am trying to gett an idea of what they cap these cards at.

AMEX doesn't follow a strictly fill-or-kill philosophy when it comes to CLIs, it's really more about how much you care about them looking at your 2019 and 2020 tax returns - which is something that many people have a strong philosophical objection to even when they've been careful to always accurately state income whenever asked.
Even if you were to, as you put it, 'play it safe' AMEX may still make a 4506-C request so IMO you may as well just ask for what you want. There have been enough data points over the years to show that this is in part profile-driven and not strictly using auniversally applied hard number , and that AMEX factors in both the amount you are requesting and the total amount of CL they have already extended across all cards.
There is no cap on the credit limit for either card. If income, assets, spending, and credit history support it, Amex will go 7 digits on either one.
Unless you need more than $30k in additional credit right now, I would probably ask on the Reserve. You can always reallocate between your personal accounts once a month.
Also you mentioned a FICO score and a TU score that is much lower and swinging wildly. Assuming the latter is a VantageScore 3.0 score? Amex will use your Experian FICO 8 score for lending decisions.

It doesn't matter what you ask for, they won't hold it against you. They just give you what they feel like giving you. So you might as well swing for the fences

Happy to report that the CLI on the gold amex took from 30k to 60k (what I requested for).
I was going with everybody's initial advice, doing it on the reserve. However, there was an issue somewhere in the backend of AMEX (confirmed by them), as it relates to my card. So, with me being antsy and anxiously waiting, I just jumped the gun on the gold card. Instant approval, no ask for 4056 form. Although, that may have something to do with me providing that on the initial application (had executive offices involved).
Thanks all for your advice!
