Im tempted to app with them. Not because I want any of their products, but just to see how fast they can auto deny me for prior relationship
Sorry Pizza
If they've already slapped you with a HP, you might as well just stick with it and come away with somehing. lol
I just wanted to say that I have had zero issue with HSBC, it's obviously your mileage may vary. This was maybe 3 weeks ago and the process couldn't have been smoother. Went to review and the next day it was approved. Best of luck and keep going!
Better than 50% chance all HSBC accountsare going to be sold soon. Between Brexit and Hong Kong, well you know
HSBC sends me a snail mail letter asking me to respond within 10 days. The letter was sent from Hong Kong. It arrived 15 days after it was sent. Cool...
Also the random phone calls asking me to verify my account info. Very politely "No, that is absurb. You already have my account info. I'm not giving some random person over the phone anything."
So sir....I just want to verify what you do for a living. "You know exactly what I do for a living. You have my invoices and purchase orders for the last 10 years". Yeah but can you tell me over the phone again what you do for a living. "No." I'm affraid if you dont answer my questions, your account may be in bad standing. "Ok can you tell me exactly what it means for my account to be in bad standing?". No, I'm sorry I cannot. "Cool..."
I now have a much smaller balance with them.
Actual interactions with HSBC in Hong Kong. I have multiple bank accounts with them. No credit cards.
Looks like HSBC pulled my EQ for ID verification purposes in February. Maybe I have a shot of getting past them if i shoot an app. 🤣
Seriously though, they sound totally ridiculous. No interest in doing business with them.
If I'mnot mistaken, wasn't HSBC sold several years back? I thought I remember getting a letter that the account would be changing, or i could be confusing it with Orchards which Cap1 bought.

You remember right. They were in trouble in the last recession and sold off their US credit card subsidiary to Cap1. Orchard Bank was part of that subsidiary. They've since come back and re-entered the market with a new suite of cards.
Gotta learn patience.. Although i had to jump through some hoops they have been nothing but professional with me and a pleasure to deal with. To each and their own though. Answering some verification and providing POI was no big deal for me.
No, HSBC sold off their credit card division in 2002 or 2003, well before the 2008 recession. They weren't so good at verifying customer identity and got caught with drug cartels using them to launder funds. They left the US for a couple years. Now they're back and fanatics about identity verification.
