Has chase lost their friggin mind?!

Hey y'all,

I used to visit these forums few years back. Anyways chase had this problem with me churning and burning their cards so I close them 2 years ago (had 4 accounts). Now when I go to apply for their sapphire card I got rejected? Apparently after calling backdoor number, lady said I have 5 or more inquiries in 24 months.

I did recently buy a second house so probably got a few hits from that? My score is like 775, six figure income, have 78,000 in CL from the few credit cards I have. I think I saw 6 inquiries on my report last time. Anyone have similar experience, are they still salty from when I cancelled all their accounts?

EDIT: Any suggestions on other vendors for a similar travel rewards card? I will probably never consider a chase card again.

Called the chase 5/24 rule.  If you have opened more than 5 cards in the last 2 years auto denial.  All around the net, sorry to hear about the denial.  Things in credit constantly evole.  I think the rep or you meant accounts and not inquiries as inquiries are not part of that rule, but part of your score

Hi OP and welcome back to the forum.

I wish you had come back a bit sooner prior to applying with Chase.  If so you would have learned that in the time since you've been away (and maybe even before) that Chase does have a 5/24 rule that applies to the vast majority of their products.  It's nothing personal, just the way they do business these days.  Sorry about the denial.

Yeah I read into that but the last two hits were from preapproval of house loan and after closing on the house. So I had 4 credit card hits.

Inquiries shouldn't be the issue, recent accounts in the last 2 years should. Not to mention the 48 month Sapphire rule they recently implemented.

Re: Has chase lost their friggin mind?!

So is churning basically dead? I literally have 3% credit usage, 100% payment history, 18 accounts, 2 year 5 months AoA. Please recommend a good travel card?

With Chase and Cap1 yes... Many good travel cards still left out there, just depends on what you are looking for?  MR's since UR's are outta the picture now?  Just statuses?  Cash back or points, etc, etc..  Things like Uber that is a no AF card is 3% CB on travel and 4% on dining and 2% online which isnt to shabby.  Many other premium cards exists such as the Platinum and various hotel cards being SPG, etc.  Some cards by chase are also not included currently in the 5/24 rule such as the Hyatt card among 8 or so others.  Just got to do some research of what you are looking for as many 500+ value sign-up bonuses still exist.

Wait. Did you say 5 inquires, or you meant 5 new accounts in 24 months? Just clearing it up.

Re: Has chase lost their friggin mind?!

What is MR's and UR's? I just want something like the sapphire with a huge sign up bonus, preferrably no annual fee.

No, I opened maybe 2 new accounts in 2 years. O I did buy a car and refinance in last two years, do those counts as hits?
