Having trouble with my first Chase Credit Card application, Please help!

I have only had one credit card for like 7 years. My score is 760 on Experian. Never late and everything is squeaky clean.

Today, I remember receiving a letter from Chase, asking for proof of i.d, etc, for an Amazon c.c. application that I gave up long ago (due to hassle). I am predicting it's going to go the same route with my current application for a Hyatt Chase card since I was not approved automatically.

I called customer service today just to see if I can expedite my application, and I got passed onto a person that spent 2 or so mins reviewing my file after answering a lot of questions about personal details (dob, ss no., etc.).

She said I need to fax my s.s card, a bill that proves address and a government issed ID. She gave me a ref number too.

My questions are the following:

a) Should I go to a branch and ask for help/fax?

b) I lurked around this forum and there have been a lot of posts saying their fax machine sucks. Should I mail the documents as well just to save time?

c) If I choose to mail my verification documents, what address do I send it to? PM me if it's restricted to post the address on the forums.

d) The lady also told me to call again to see if my faxed docs have been 'uploaded'. Do I use the same phone number to check on the status of upload? Anyone have a number? I didn't think of asking during the call.

If you dont want to go into a branch, you can go to an OfficeDepot store or a FedEx store and use theirs.

Being asked for proof of ID is typically a good sign

I would just take them to a branch and have them deal with it.  Set aside some time for the process and you might get them to call to get the apporval while you're there.  If the fax isn't clear enough from the branch they can scan them in and e-mail them over as well.

While you're in the branch you could also snag some easy money by opening an account for the bonus.... not to mention that's definetly ID verified if the other dept has issues.

I would go to the branch and have them fax it from there, then follow up with a phone call that they received it and also that the quality of images is acceptable. You can call the same number, let them know you were asked to fax documents for verification and they should be able to either answer or direct you to a different  department if needed.

If you opt to mail documents instead, you will need to call them for the address. I would not do fax and mail at the same time, it can get confusing if/when they receive it, especially if verification is not completed by the time they receive the mail

Re: Having trouble with my first Chase Credit Card application, Please help!

I would call and be on the phone with someone as I fax it. When I worked at Chase, we had 2 fax machines for the department and anybody can walk up and grab the documents. The lot I worked with we're trustworthy, but it wasn't a restricted area so someone from customer service could walk in and grab them, or one of the temps they would tend to hire. At least if you mail it, one or two people opened the mail in the middle of the floor where everyone could see. They were separated and binned for an analyst to come get.

I've been told by my ex-coworkers that the departments have been separated in different buildings now, but I just don't trust faxing my stuff in after having worked for Chase and hsbc.

Re: Having trouble with my first Chase Credit Card application, Please help!

Thanks for all the help guys!

I went into a branch this morning. The lady that helped me was really nice. She faxed my verification documents over and offered to call them up to see if they received it or not.

When she made the call though, she got disconnected after getting transferred to a Specialist. She tried calling again and got another Rep told her I can check/call back in 5 hours because it takes that amount of time for the documents to be posted.

She gave me a number at 800-945-2000, the Lending Dept. She said to call and check in or around 4 hours. I asked her if they received the fax and she said she properly sent it and they received it. She offered a chance for me to stop by again, if I wanted, so that she can call on my behalf.

All in all, a good experience but we will see how the phone call goes this afternoon. Sorry for the length. I'm sharing this so future applicants like me can get info after google searching this forum. Even though I have 760 score, Chase do make you work for it, lol.

OMG, People still FAX?

Why couldn't you simply email proof?

Well at least you have a local branch that you can go into.

Facsimile is still widely regarded as being secure in a time where data breaches are happening every day. It's not going anywhere any time soon. There are even fax machines that use cellular networks now.

Re: Having trouble with my first Chase Credit Card application, Please help!

UPDATE: I am now approved for a credit limit of $17,200.

I just finished a very long call. First spoke to a machine to check the status and then I entered a number to speak to a real human being. Got to a front desk lady who verified some info and she transferred me to another person. This person checked some more details, told me it takes 3-4 days after a fax but if I gave him a few minutes, he can check for me. I was then put on hold for 5 mins. When he came back he asked for more time so I did. After another 4 mins, he said Congrats, you're approved for $17200, you will receive your package in 2 weeks.

Now the question is whether I should push them to send it sooner? I am staying at 2 Hyatt Hotels soon so it would be really great if they can send it quick. What do you guys think? Is there a big fee for it?
