Help! Prequalifed for Citi Double Cash...

Since I hadn't apped for anything since my scores have had a 30pt jump, I thought I'd make my rounds of the prequal offers, just to see, not really to shop for a card. The only pre-approval I've had in the last year except my Discover IT, which I  went ahead and got when I was pre-approved.

However, to my great suprise, Citi ffered me a prequal for the Double cash card with a solid single APR, not a range. Although I was not planning on another card, I am tempted to pull the trigger.

Any advice? From what I've heard, the Citi card is great for cash back. My current utilization is about 17%, I have a thick file and have been actively working on getting my scores up. I want to bite but I don't know if the card is worth it....

Just ask yourself if it's something you will use and could benefit you. My double cash is one of my most used cards and I like it. Only downside I dislike to it is starting limits seem smaller and to use your cash back you have to have at least 25 bucks saved before you can use it. You can ask for a bigger starting limit if the limit isn't to your liking, but beware it's probably another HP, but people seem to have great success doing that right off the bat after approval.

Re: Help! Prequalifed for Citi Double Cash...

Right now I'm in my first year with Discover it, so double cash back = 10% back on category spending, 2% everything else. I don't really need it, I suppose. I think I'm letting myself get lured in based on my rebuild and how no one prequalified me for months,, and now I am starting to get pre-approvals.  The APR they are offering  is sky-high as well, although that doesn't matter as much as I pay almost all of my cards in full every month. I have been trying to get down to 9% utilization and probably will be there by the end of May at the latest.

I'm thinking maybe I don't jump the gun, age things out a bit, and try again in a couple of months. I'm just worried I won't get this offer again!

Re: Help! Prequalifed for Citi Double Cash...

I just recently applied for the Citi Couble Cash, and I only did so becuase Credit Karma.com said that my chances of approval were "very good". So, before I applied, I went to https://www.citicards.com/cards/credit/application/flow.action?isInvitation= to see if I was pre-qualified by Citi from their website just to make sure, and it doesn't affect your credit score.  I was approved, and so far all of the cards that CreditKarma had the prediction of "very good," I was approved for. Just a suggestion to check out to make yoursef more confident or not in your decision.

CreditKarma's predictions are usually bogus for the record.^

I prequaled on Citi's site. I ended up going for it - $1500 SL, I'm okay with that. Did a little pruning too - opened one, closed three. Smiley Wink

Congratulations on the DC. I recently got the DC with a $3,900 SL. I got the card on Saturday and activated it and called for a CLI. It was a HP and I asked for $10k, they approved $8K. So, if you have nothing to lose with another HP, once you activate the card, perhaps you can get a higher limit. Aim high and let them counter.
