Since I hadn't apped for anything since my scores have had a 30pt jump, I thought I'd make my rounds of the prequal offers, just to see, not really to shop for a card. The only pre-approval I've had in the last year except my Discover IT, which I went ahead and got when I was pre-approved.
However, to my great suprise, Citi ffered me a prequal for the Double cash card with a solid single APR, not a range. Although I was not planning on another card, I am tempted to pull the trigger.
Any advice? From what I've heard, the Citi card is great for cash back. My current utilization is about 17%, I have a thick file and have been actively working on getting my scores up. I want to bite but I don't know if the card is worth it....
Right now I'm in my first year with Discover it, so double cash back = 10% back on category spending, 2% everything else. I don't really need it, I suppose. I think I'm letting myself get lured in based on my rebuild and how no one prequalified me for months,, and now I am starting to get pre-approvals. The APR they are offering is sky-high as well, although that doesn't matter as much as I pay almost all of my cards in full every month. I have been trying to get down to 9% utilization and probably will be there by the end of May at the latest.
I'm thinking maybe I don't jump the gun, age things out a bit, and try again in a couple of months. I'm just worried I won't get this offer again!
I just recently applied for the Citi Couble Cash, and I only did so becuase Credit Karma.com said that my chances of approval were "very good". So, before I applied, I went to https://www.citicards.com/cards/credit/application/flow.action?isInvitation= to see if I was pre-qualified by Citi from their website just to make sure, and it doesn't affect your credit score. I was approved, and so far all of the cards that CreditKarma had the prediction of "very good," I was approved for. Just a suggestion to check out to make yoursef more confident or not in your decision.
CreditKarma's predictions are usually bogus for the record.^
I prequaled on Citi's site. I ended up going for it - $1500 SL, I'm okay with that. Did a little pruning too - opened one, closed three.

Congratulations on the DC. I recently got the DC with a $3,900 SL. I got the card on Saturday and activated it and called for a CLI. It was a HP and I asked for $10k, they approved $8K. So, if you have nothing to lose with another HP, once you activate the card, perhaps you can get a higher limit. Aim high and let them counter.
