Re: Holding out for Discover It

(I missed medicgirl's post)

Basically being an AU isn't helpful if there's ANYTHING derogatory about the account.
Capital One Savor: $6,000; PenFed Power Cash Rewards: $3,500; Nordstrom Visa: $3,300; PenFed Gold: $2,500; Capital One: $2,500; Mission Lane: $2,500; Credit One: $2,000;
Store Cards: Kohls $2,500; Home Depot: $1,000; Target: $900; LOFT: $700; Amazon: $350

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if the OP has Charge Offs in addition to late payments on his credit report, removing the late payments really won't do much for his score at all as he'll still be in a dirty bucket with the presence of other baddies still on there.  The major score increase you get is when you move from dirty to clean.  There are dramatically diminishing returns when you are talking the presence of several negative accounts.

My EQ score (clean) is 77 points and 90 points higher than my TU and EX scores respectively because TU and EX each still have one dirty account.

I think it depends on which is more recent, the late payments or the CO's.  I have a Bk on my report from 2011.  I had an account IIB that made it appear my "most recent late" was 2 months ago.  TU removed the account and my score went up about 10 points because FICO now thinks my "most recent late" was 24 months ago.  My other 2 reports indicate my most recent late was 70 months ago and those scores are about 20 points higher than TU.  I think anytime you extend the time since your most recent late, it has the potential to increase your score.  I think it's possible that if she removes herself as AU on the account that had the late 18 months ago, she may see a small boost because her most recent late would then be over 24 months.  But, that also depends on when the CO's were paid.

Re: Holding out for Discover It

My husband has a fairly new Discover It with a $6500 limit. I guess I can remove myself off the Best Buy and be on the Discover. I pulled the trigger last night and applied for my own. I got an $800 limit only. I am happy with that though sense I pif my store cards each month so I will do the same with this one. From what I have read, Discover does CLI pretty often if I keep a low utilization on it.

The paid CO are First Premier and Verizon, they told me under no circumstance they will remove the CO. The Verizon wasn't even my fault, they didn't honor their warranty or phone insurance I purchased. It was either go to a new company or flat out buy a new iPhone which I couldn't do. I fought for 6 months with them about it and that's how it ended in a CO.

Re: Holding out for Discover It

Thank you! Next goal is to get to the 700's. I won't catch my hubby anytime soon as his is 760's but to be in the 700 club would be awesome. Don't know if that will happen with paid CO's though

Re: Holding out for Discover It

I think it's possible as your new accounts age and the CO ages.  It's a great goal to have...you'll get there!
