I just checked their preapproval link.  Preapproved for 17.99%.  Last time I checked it was 24.99%.  I wonder if this would have any bearing on getting approved for a regular Citi card.

Irish80, I cannot imagine you would have any trouble getting approved for a Citi card now. I applied for my Citi Business card less than a month ago after 12 or so new accounts opened, two of them Citi Personal CCs in a two month span. I was approved for a solid starting CL on the new card, then called in and received 10K CLIs on my other cards to bring them closer to the business card CL. Your scores are better than mine, also. Which card were you thinking?

Citi AA Executive.  It's my number of inquiries and new accounts.  I have 8 on EX now and I hear Citi is very inquiry sensitive.

I was hoping they would offer a Business Version of the Executive. I certainly would have taken that over the Platinum Business version. Perks are very solid for any AA flyer.

They tend not to like more than six inquiries in the last six months but I can imagine with some of their other cards like Best Buy and Home Depot they might be a bit more lenient.

Tradelines: Macy’s - $18k, Penfed Power Cash Rewards - $10k, Ethan Allen (TD Bank) - $5.7k, Kay Jewelers - $5.5k, Appliances Connection - $5.3k, Jared - $5.25k, Best Buy (Citi) - $5k, Dell Preferred Account - $3.5k, Samsung - $3.2k, Firestone CFNA - $3.2k, Capital One Platinum - $3k, Mercury MC - $2.25k, Williams Sonoma - $2.1k, Wayfair (Fortiva) - $2k, Amazon Store Card - $1.8k, Apple Card - $1.7k, NFCU cashRewards - $1.5k, CareCredit - $1.5k, B&H Photo - $1.5k, Adorama - $1.25k, Ebay MC - $1k, Sam’s Club MC - $1k, American Eagle - $1k, Ollo MC - $600, Mission Lane Visa - $500, NY & Company - $500, Walgreens - $500, Home Depot - $500, Target RED Card - $500, CapOne Secured MC 0 AF - $500, Penfed Overdraft LOC - $500

Current FICOS: Mid 640s-50s on all reports, Ch 7 BK D/C Aug 2019
Starting scores: EX - 534, EQ - 574, TU - 516 | Total TLs: $91k approx | Total Utilization: 17%, getting this back down

Re: Home Depot Declined?

If you read posts of people calling, having another hard pull done and being approved, they reapplied over the phone most likely.

And yeah banks are weird, If I was not instant approved I call and there are no ifs ands or butts about it, I have to wait for my letter they dont tell me anything.

If I call to see if I was approved over an automated line and I was approved, then I try to call the company to ask about my account I still get the, wait for your card in the mail, similar to wait for your letter before they will help me.

If I was instant approved, did not get the card yet and want to know info on my account or try for a CLI before I get my card, they do that no problem.

I dunno about calling for recons, Ive called some cards and asked if I was approved only to be reconned right then and givin a CLI without asking and then told yes my application was approved.

Ive also called cards and asked for a recon and was told they do not do that but I could re apply with them over the phone.  (call enough times though youll get every answer in the world)

*edit*

my citi app was denied too, do to too many inquirys.

Re: Home Depot Declined?

Call them back, tell them you would like to request they pull TransUnion and re evaluate, I had them do this on my Best Buy card a year ago, and it worked, just be nice about it, the CSR complied and I was instantly approved! Best of luck! All of Citi's retail cards, are centralized and underwriten at the same place.

Discover IT $32,500, Chase Freedom $1,000.00, Sears Mastercard $10,000, Wal-Mart DC $10,000.00, Kohl's $3,000.00, Chase Slate $52,000.00, 3 Rivers FCU Platinum Mastercard $25,000.00, IU Credit Union $25,000.00, Penfed LOC $25,000.00, Fort Financial CU $15,000.00, Home Depot $22,000.00, Lowe's $20,000.00, Penfed Power Cash Rewards $25,000.00, PenFed Travel Amex $25,000.00, Value City Furniture $10,000.00, PNC Points Visa Signature $15,000.00, GM Buy Power card $5,000.00, BOA 123 Visa Siggy, $62,000.00, Citi DC $15,000.00, GM Extended Family $3,000.00, Fire, Police, City, County, FCU $10,000.00, TU 791, Eq 765, Exp 772

I just tried calling and she quickly said I was declined.

I said "Yes, I was hoping you could pull my TU and re evaluate"

She said "Unfortunetely I don't have the authority to do that and if you have questions about the decline you will need to wait for the letter and then contact the credit reporting agency on the letter.

I asked "If Home Depot had changed it's policies because my application was decided by a computer and they use to offer manual reconsideration reviews with another credit report?"

She said "She was not aware"

I escalated to manager

She said that the computer pulls a report and they can only request another report if something extreme warrants on the report pulled.

I stated that the computer decided the application and it wasn't that anything was extreme on the report that would warrant the other pull as you stated but I also bet the computer #1 decline was INQ's but I was thinking with a manual review someone might agree that the overall credit is fairly good despite all the INQ's and be able to get me to an approval... Also I will add that I have had a Best Buy MC underwritten by Citi for over 4.5 years and was able to get that increased to $5k"

she agreed to take a look at the current application and credit report to see if anything could be done to get me to approval but after just a couple minutes came back and said sorry she just couldn't.

Seemed lack luster at best but much better than my previous 3 calls and I'll take it and put this matter to bed, it was my last app for EX before the freeze takes effect!

I never get prequals for Citibank, but just last night I received a prequal for Home Depot.  Not the highest APR, but not the lowest either.  I understand they are the umbrella bank (so to speak) for Macy's as well.  At any rate, the only baddie I have is a 7 year old tax lien so I've never even tried applying with Citi.  I wonder though, would this Home Depot be a way to get in with Citi?

Re: Home Depot Declined?

@ Credit Addict, Im sorry you didnt have the same results I did a year ago? Seems Citi can be very fickle at times, just wait for the letter to show up, get your thoughts together and hit them again, I know for a fact I was able to get them to pull TU for my Best Buy account for a reconsideration, frustrates me when they tell people they cant, when I know good damn and well they have!

Re: Home Depot Declined?

I have found Citi Retail Cards can be an easy way to get your foot into the door with their prime cards, I applied for a Phillips 66 gas card back in 2011, was approved, then a week later, approved for Home Depot, and eventually a regular Citi Bank Mastercard, since then, I have been approved for Sears and Shell Mastercard both!

Discover IT $32,500, Chase Freedom $1,000.00, Sears Mastercard $10,000, Wal-Mart DC $10,000.00, Kohl's $3,000.00, Chase Slate $52,000.00, 3 Rivers FCU Platinum Mastercard $25,000.00, IU Credit Union $25,000.00, Penfed LOC $25,000.00, Fort Financial CU $15,000.00, Home Depot $22,000.00, Lowe's $20,000.00, Penfed Power Cash Rewards $25,000.00, PenFed Travel Amex $25,000.00, Value City Furniture $10,000.00, PNC Points Visa Signature $15,000.00, GM Buy Power card $5,000.00, BOA 123 Visa Siggy, $62,000.00, Citi DC $15,000.00, GM Extended Family $3,000.00, Fire, Police, City, County, FCU $10,000.00, TU 791, Eq 765, Exp 772

Re: Home Depot Declined?

Even though HD is Citi, They seem to use totally different UW processes. 3 years ago I had a 9 yo BK and Citi gave me:

Simplicity $5000 (Since then its up to 13500)

Diamond Preferred $10000 went to $18000

AA (approved thru EO because of inq but I wanted the 50K)

3year old HD card had origonal limit of $500 and they wouldnt budge. I took 3 HP for CLIover 2 years with no dice.

I closed the card 6 mo and 1 HP after BK fell off, Waited 2 months and reapplied.

Instant $4000 at the register, 15 min. backdoor call and it was $20,000.

For me, HD Was tougher nut to crack. Still trying to make sense of it.
