Hi I am in the middle of a home renovation and want to get both HD and Lowes CC. I'd like to apply for both in the next week or so, with the different banks is there a better order to apply for them? In other words should I go to HD and buy the windows and then to Lowes and buy the doors (or vise versa)
Not ot sure it matters. Lowes is Sync and they are pretty easy to get approval for. If you have a huge project you might wanna look into the Project CC from Lowes.
I would app Home Depot (Citibank) first then Lowes (Synchrony). My experience has been that Citibank is more conservative than Synchrony. After obtaining your Lowes approval, I would call credit solutiions (number listed in this thread http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Card-Applications/Backdoor-Numbers/td-p/408066) and ask for a $35k CLI. Tell them you are doing renovations on your property, if you don't qualify for the full $35k they will counter your offer. I wouldn't go for a Home Depot CLI because it will cost you another HP.

I agree. The Home Depot card is the harder to get. Yes Citi does the card, but they do follow some guidelines from Home Depot, however they will still be harder to get. It will be harder, as stated to get a CLI from them. Even for a normal CLI it can be rare to get an automatic CLI from them without a lot of use on the card. It would require a HP if you initiate it later even after it has aged. The Lowes card is much easier to get and easie to get a CLI on.
A benefit of having both is that if you ever need something at Home Depot and even if it is lesser money and you don't need the extended financing, is that you can pull out the Lowe's card and comment about how they give 5% off for using the card. In most instances you can then get them to give you the 5% off at Home Depot. I used that trick all the time. I have never once had it not work. You may not even need to pull the Lowe's card out to do it....

Home Depot no longer extends the 5% discount to HD or Lowes card holders. For this reason I will be closing my HD card.
All, Thank you for the input. I'll be gathering credit and spending it wisely this week!

Really, I did it about 2 weeks ago. I guess the next time I go there and try it and if they say they won't honor it I will leave my stuff at the counter and go over to Lowe's which is in the same parking lot!
I would do Home Depot first the Lowes. Home Depot is backed by Citi and they can be somewhat sensitive to inquires depending on your profile.
