The Amex Pre-Qualify is pretty accurate based on personal experience and the experience of others I've seen here on the forums. I was prequalified for the Blue Cash Everyday back in August and was approved. However, nothing is guaranteed. I would try to get your utilization lower than 60% first before apping. From what I've seen with Amex, they don't like to see high utilization. Best of luck!

Why? I've never heard of that before...
AmEx has some interesting internal algorithms that they use to rate risk and to build customer management scores. Those algorithms look at your spending patterns, and a subset of those inputs includes the categories and types of merchants you frequent.
An extreme illustration (exaggerated to make a point) - no one should expect a Centurion invite, even at the $500k+ spending level, if all of their spending is at Dollar Tree and Wal-Mart.
