I have been reading a few threads regarding Discover and just checked this morning on their site if I had any pre-approval offers. It came back with an offer for the Discover It card. I am a little leary about this as I know my credit isn't strong. I do have a NFCU card $1k (1 year history , always (PIF), Cap 1 QS1 $300 1 month history (PIF). My scores are EQ: 581, TU: 579, EX: 591. I have 2 inquiries on EQ and TU and 3 on EX. 6 accounts in collections (working to pay off OC and get removed and 2 state tax liens (paid and released, just waiting for removal).
I have extremely high doubts for approval based on my history (I don't blame them), but after reading about CreditAddicts debacle with them recently and how other members files were way thicker than mine and scores higher, they weren't getting approved, but other members in similar situations as mine were getting approved. I highly value my fellow MyFico members opinions and insight on here, so there won't be any hard feelings on opinions and advice, I just don't want to be denied and have another inquiry from a HP. My dashboard here on MyFico recommends getting one more credit card, which would give me 3 cards total, so I wold like to obtain a Discover card, but don't want to mess up my current progress of trying to improve my scores because of a denial. Thoughts everyone????
Your scores are too low IMO. Wait until your EQ is >650.
Discover prequal site is a joke btw. Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck are also pre approved.
LOL...thanks for the input Santi, I have patience, just thought it was kind of weird to see that I may be approved for a Discover this early in the game. Thanks again.
Test it with this - Come up with a bunch of random numbers for SSN and a name. Type it in on the Discover pre-equal site and you will get your answer.
Yes-Its-Me....I am smelling what your stepping in....thanks for the input...appreciated!!!
If it spits out a firm APR, it's a little better, but EVERYONE gets a card recommended to them. If it says the APR is 10.99-22.99% as a range, it means nothing.
Also forgot to add...AAoA is 13 years, not that that really matters due to my current scores as of 4/27/15.

The prequal is garbage. I got countered with the secured card with scores similar to yours, however.

If I were in your shoes, I'd wait for the collections to be removed and scores go up before chancing anything. Save the hardpulls for when your scores are better...
