How good is chase recon?

so today i decided that since I took 14 HP I should try and get some use out of them and call the recon numbers

1. called barclay- was told no on the rewards. He said they would like to see how well i use the barclay apple rewards first and see me establish some history before offinging me another card...very professional. I understood...

2. Declinded chase- reason BK IN 07.. He redid my app asked me questions about my BK, my income which is 95k yr average. He then asked me about a 30 day late in 03 on a car, expla, ined i found that reciently and i did send it a 10k payment that month and i think they applied it wrong and it was applied to my principle and none to the payment.

We were on the phone for about 30-40 min. He said he is now going two turn it over to a verification specialist and to call them in the morning....im hoping this is a good sign???? Any input????

3. US bank- application is still in review says 3 more days. I'll call tomorrow close. I hae no idea why its still in review but it looks like theyll take a co-signer if need be i have that

4. Discoveqr IT. DECLINED. Recon closed calling them tomorrow to see if they will do it with a co signer...

im really hoping chase doesnt shoot me down....

thoughts? These are the 4 i didnt get. The other 10 are in the mail. Im just trying to make use of these HP. the worst they can say is no...but they can always say yes too!!!!

Discover recon is basically nonexistent unfortunately. You either get it, or you don't. There's not much overturning of denials.

US Bank also AFAIK doesn't really recon, they just take their time to review applications and you are likely just waiting on that. Doesn't mean it was declined. Most apps are manually reviewed with them.

Barclay very rarely approves 2 cards in quick succession for a customer. Generally you need to use the first approved card for ~6 months before they're willing to extend anything else.

As to your question on Chase, their analysts are generally fairly conservative and tough. However, if you have more than 5 new accounts in 2 years, you can forget about Freedom or CSP, and likely Slate (if those are what you applied for). No amount of recon will overturn that. If it was a cobranded card such as AARP, Disney, etc, you stand a better chance on recon, but like I said - their analysts like to grill people about new accounts and such.

Unless US Bank or Discover offered the option for a co-signer as an alternative then your chances are slim to none, unfortunately.

Re: How good is chase recon?

I recently had a successful chase recon. Lots of questions were asked then at the end he said he needed another set of eyes on it and I'd hear back in 1-2 weeks. I called the automated hotline the next day after missing a call back and it had changed to approved.

Re: How good is chase recon?

Thanks! It's Decent 2000. For me it's good considering just 6mo ago I started rebuilding with a 483 FICO score and only had a total and surge card. now I have some good CC. Hopefully us bank will approve, it's still under review. Discover IT we will see. But from what I'm reading it will be doughtful.

Re: How good is chase recon?

Am I reading that correctly? Chase asked you about a late car payment from 2003? As in 12 years ago? Is it still appearing in your file?
