Is Citi rather stingy with their credit limits? I got approved for a double cash but it was only $1,200. I would like it to be around 5k but oh well. What was your initial limit?

What's your Equifax score?
I got an initial CL of $3800 on my TYP two years ago and they increased it to $6800 last year
I got an initial CL of $8600 on my Diamond Preferred in June of last year
Niether one were big enough to write home to mom about but they rely heavy on the EQ report I believe.
They're known to be a bit stingy with the CL's on the DoubleCash especially. But from my experiences, they're pretty generous with CLI's. You can request a SP CLI every 6 months and they are known to do auto CLI's as well.
I have a Forward at $5k and when I applied for the DoubleCash they beat that limit by a hair at $5.2k. So it's possible that higher limits with Citi beget higher limits.
And like Mackeral said, Citi relies heavily upon EQ, so that could have an impact as well.
I hate CITI. I've been sitting with a $1,320 CL (reduced from $2500 5 years ago) that hasn't budged. I've had the card since 1996. And they won't approve me for ANYTHING else. I also banked with them for 18 years.
I got 6,000 CL and 17.99 apr so i would say they are pretty meh. At least i got an free experian fico score out of it lol. It was an Citi AA card by the way.

So basically I should just use the card with the low limit and then ask for a SP CLI in 6 months?

I don't recall you saying how old the DC is but you might have luck with a recon if it's fairly new. Other wise, yes, use the card and in 6 months if the limit hasn't gone up you can request a CLI if you wish. But it's still going to depend on what your EQ report reads.
Ive had it for 2 days. lol but alright, thank you so much. Tbh Im just glad to be approved for the card

If Citi is like how they were when DC first came out you will need an second HP to get decent CL.
