How long should I wait until I ask Chase for a product change?

So, I have had my chase FU for about 4 months now. At the time, I didn’t know there were better options, and I didn’t know about 5/24, so I did an app spree and ended up at LOL/24. My Freedom
Unlimited quickly ended up becoming a SD card after being made obsolete by my Citi DC and 1st year Discover card, so right now I am looking to PC my FU to the Freedom for the rotating 5% categories. How long should I wait until calling and asking to PC? Also, are product changes a SP or HP with Chase?

Thanks in advance!

One year with the current card is time required for a product change with chase.... That's what Ive heard everytime this subject comes up....

To add, there's no HP involved with a PC OP.

I got my FU some time in January of this year. I PCed it to Freedom last month or about 7 months later. I'm not saying it can't be done sooner because I didn't try, but it's definitely not a full year wait.

Aside from that, I also have the Citi DC but I value 1.5 URs much higher than straight 2% CB. However, if your goal is only cashback, then it makes sense. If you end up going for UR points in the future and get a Sapphire product, I'd take 1.5% UR anyday over a 2% cashback. In fact, I'd take 1% UR over 2% CB too. But it's all about your goals.

Re: How long should I wait until I ask Chase for a product change?

My first chase card was the SLATE, cause I didn’t know any better. After doing some research I decided that I wanted a freedom card because of the rewards. I called a week after receiving the card and product changed to to the freedom unlimited, loved it. But 2 weeks ago I decided that I wanted the 5% called and product changed to the regular freedom. No questions asked and no pull at all.

It can be done anytime you'd like. I too mistakenly got the FU instead of the normal freedom. I called in and pc'ed after 3 months with no issue. Card number even stayed the same and was able to benefit from card immediately. I will say to pc before quater change so your ready to sign up when next quater categories roll around.

You dont have to wait a year to product change if the annual fees are equal or less then the current product you have. So if you have a FU then you can change to a Freedom, Slate, or Sapphire (no fee version).

Such great news! I can PC to Freedom, take my Chase card out of the sockdrawer, then make a trifecta when I am no longer LOL/24. Thanks guys.

Re: How long should I wait until I ask Chase for a product change?

Well this is great news for me! I got my FU in Jan this year...used it to get the SUB and since I had several 2% or better options for my spend it went right into the SD. I use it for coffee every other month just to ensure it stays active. I'm going to call them and pc to the Freedom as well. I thought I had to wait a year... i'm LOL/24 as well and probably always will be. I'm at 8 plus a new car loan for the year and trying hard not to app the Savor.

Update: I just called the product change line. The change was quick and seamless. Getting my new Freedom card in 3-5 business days. I can’t wait! 😃
