How many cards can you actually get in a year?

Have tried using Google for this and it comes up dry, I'm just super curious for you heavy churners with good reports how many "quality" cards you pull a year not so much concerned with retail cards...my guess is 6-8 a year ?

You can have as many as will aprove you. It all depends on your profile, income and DTI. Somebody with an income of $20k won't get approved for as many as someone with an identical profile that makes $10M a year. You need to narrow your window as many of the big churners make upwards of $150k a year, which is a big deal as banks like Chase cap limits at 50% of your income which could affect approval rate if you're going for a trifecta.

I got 8 this year with a vague intention to app for another in November.  Don't try this at home, kidsSmiley Wink  I do have a strategy, though.

As mentioned by Brian_Earl_Spilner; it really depends on your income, usage and how you manage your accounts. Someone with a good salary, long payment history, long AAoA, and no baddies will get approved for more cards compared to someone who has none of the above. You can still get a decent amount of cards by just having 3 of the 4 listed above. There are many factors in play when getting cards.

Re: How many cards can you actually get in a year?

I've added 6 bank CC & a 15K CLOC in the last 3 months. Feeling more picky now about which cards I want although also feeling equally itchy  -- it's kind of a thrill, after the research is done,  to spin the credit wheel and see how it all turns out.  I was stalking cards all last week w/out pulling the trigger though. Still thirsty. Might need a 12-steps program soon.

To date, I have gotten one card, now closed, in 2015, one card (and an unsuccessful app to USAA which, had I done my research and in particular found these forums back then, I wouldn't have bothered with) in 2016, seven cards, one of which has been combined into another one, and an auto loan in 2017 - my most active year by far - and four cards and a personal loan in 2018.  I really don't anticipate (knock on wood) getting another card this calendar year, particularly since my most recent card - NFCU cashRewards - was my primary goal card for early 2019 (I just decided to take the chance early).

I'm consolidating balances onto two of my lower-interest cards, including the one with the biggest CL, and hope to combine two other cards (my two Discover IT's) in the spring of 2017, or at least reallocate as much of the balance from the older card to the newer one as I can. Aside from that, my main focus is aging and growing my active cards.
