I got 8 this year with a vague intention to app for another in November.  Don't try this at home, kidsSmiley Wink  I do have a strategy, though.

OP,  It all depends on your profile and your credit goals.  There is no max number, just what you can be approved for by the lenders.

@wingennis   LOL where have i heard that before Smiley Wink

Re: How many cards can you actually get in a year?

24 cards in 2017. Not all of them were good cards. But last 15 were. Only have gotten 1 personal and 4 business this year. My wife has gotten a ton though. My plan is to get under 5/24 in a year so mostly business cards for me.

I have 3 international vacations airfare and hotels paid in points already for the next year for me and my family so it is not that I cant get approved for cards. More of setting myself up for 2020.

In april I got 4 cards, got 6 in one day almost two weeks ago. So 10 in 4 months, I'm in the garden for a while.

Seven this year so far and a nice sized car loan!! I'm up for the 12 step program as well.

I can't seem to stay in the Garden. Everytime I get in and close the gate, I seem to do something wrong.

Thanks.  It worked because I tried to figure out in advance which credit bureau was pulled by each lender so I didn't run up a large amount of inquiries on any one CRA.  Plus, it helped to have a bit of cash to spread around.  Deposit relationships with banks like Chase and US Bank got me pre-approvals for several of their cards;  just last week different personal bankers at Chase told me I was pre-approved for any of their credit cards so I'm thinking of trying my luck for the CSR even though I'm over 5/24.  The actual count in that nine-month period is 15 credit cards, 2 personal loans, 1 line of credit, and 20 checking and savings accounts.

Re: How many cards can you actually get in a year?

I got about 10 in a week and probably 20 in a year a long time ago when I was really stupid.

I got 4 in a week recently and I am still a little concerned about AA.

I would think 1-3 per year would be little risk.

GL!
