It helps.

I don't think it helps.  I have 23k limit with NFCU card and hasn't stopped me.  I have gone from 0 limits to 130k in 6 months and I am still pretty obseseed about getting new sign up bonus cards.  I actually don't care about the limits or interest rates at this point. Just obsessed with getting free stuff.

Re: How to cure the itch??

I say play around with uti and focus on that because it takes 30 days to see any changes. So for example, try 3% then see what 8% does. Maybe even push it to 11%. I've learned a lot by playing this game. 11% actually only makes me lose 3 points. Anything under 5% drops my score about 8 points. Smiley LOL See what different percentages does to your scores and find your sweet spot. Before you know it, you've been gardening for a couple months and the itch is just mild. Smiley Wink

It's fun man. I have 7 cards now and still have one or two in Interested in. Get them now because they'll help us young guys in the future.

Re: How to cure the itch??

The utilization game might actually be a good solution....still something to aim for.  I def PIF, but have a goal for low interest card in my arsenal just in case.  Seeing "approved" is addicting after 5 years of abstaining.  I'm perfectly happy to make my PenFed card my daily driver in the future but the 10 day hold makes it bit more challenging since we have really high spend during summer.  Hopefully in a few weeks we will hit the window for Disco (91 days) and my DH Amex (61 days), Cap One credit steps.. and really hoping for a quarterly offer CLi with Penfed in Oct/Nov.  I think seeing the CLIs grow will definitely help.

thanks all for the update on the credit suicide guy....crazy!!

Re: How to cure the itch??

Perhaps you don't need to do this, but I stepped away from the boards for a while. After not applying for cards in years due to bad credit, I was rebuilding. I used to come here every day, multiple times a day. And visiting the approvals section was the worst. Each time I saw a cool new card, I needed to have it. Eventually, I had too many cards, including some that I have now closed.

After logging off,  the rest of life became more important than credit cards. And now it's nice to see the # of inquiries visible on my reports continue to decline. I leased a new car in May and was given the best rate (wahoo). Yesterday a pre-approved loan offer showed up from American Express at a great rate (Yes!).

I don't think that would have happened if I hadn't put the brakes on.

Good luck!

More than enough credit.

That is actually exactly what I did for a couple years.  Got busy with work, working on my house, playing in my actual dirt garden.

When I came back full on about 10 days ago, my scores were all in the 790-795 & I did a 3 day sp cli binge & got 2 new cards as well.  My Fico's dropped about 10 points each, but I got some perks & added something like30k to my overall limits.  Now it's about 170k

To truly garden & lose the "itch" to app, I do believe in "Please step away from the boards for the rest of the Summer....thank you"! Smiley Very Happy

BK 7 discharge 06.24.2020 No Fico score at all. Smiley Sad

I read what you said and looked around -- indeed two people reported having 24k limits without a great score!

Re: How to cure the itch??

I remember being on this site 5 years ago when I was rebuilding ... I applied for every single card out there and got approved for most of them .. got myself into financial trouble and filed for bk 3 years later... I'm almost 2 years post bk7 and I'm starting to get the itch like before ... but I know I can't get into the same financial crisis as last time ... I stopped coming here when I filed in 2015... at least not as much ... keep urself busy and try not to be on this board as much .... i think that will help...
