How to really help my husband?

We're in the process of bettering our scores and mine was easier than his; his issue is a LACK of credit history (and 2 accounts in collections, small amounts we plan on sending letters for). I app'd for 3 cards and was approved, and added him as an AU. His score jumped over 100+ points (from low 500s to mid 600s). So I tested the waters, checked for some pre-quals, and found none. At that point, I opted to try him for two 'easy' approvals -- Old Navy and Barclay. For both he got the 7-10 day message.

His credit age only shows as one month. Should we wait longer to app again so that my one month old CCs show up on his AAoC longer?

I did cap1 (2 cards for 1 HP) and my CU, have you tried cap1? barclay would want to see some history, in my case they wanted to see 6 months on my then current card.

He pre-qual'd for Secured, so I bet that's our best bet at this point. How do you manage 2 cards for 1 HP?

In my opinion & I am speaking from my own experience, lack of credit has to be dealt with through patience. Try Capt1 pre-qual 1st, if it comes up with nothing then you might consider secured card route. Barclay is far from an easy approval, they want minimum 6 month history. I made a lot of mistakes before I found this forum & one of them was blindly apping. Could have saved myself at lease 6 HP's on each CRA. With no history those HP's count against you. Do not go by your score at this point it is just a #, the hard part is waiting until he builds some history. I have found that the same card that someone with a thicker file can get with a 660 FICO, I will be turned down with a higher score because of no established history.

So, my advise is to concentrate on maybe a secured card & AU to build some history Then patiently wait & hit the pre-qual sites. Clean up the baddies & you will be pleasantly surprised, just takes a little time.

by submitting the QS1 and platnium application close together. those are the average credit card or lower tier once. if approved you can get them on credit steps and just as long as you pay for 6 months on time they will increase at 6 months. Altho some have been lucky ( myself inclused ) and recieved a CLI on my 3rd statement. YMMV

Cap1 pre-qual is notorious for not offering the QS1 and Platinum CC's. As I state so often, many people here have received these 2 CC's with NO OFFER! My experience was that I didn't realize I was not offered them and went ahead and app'd both and got them. 2mths later, after PC'ing the Plat to a QS and receiving a $1000 CLI on each I was still not able to get an offer.

Another point is that tehy tend NOT to pass you along to the full app process if you don't qualify in the short app so if you take a shot you wouldn't get the HP if you're not approved.

Here is the link, take a look and if you feel ready (IF you really have mid600 scores you should be a shoe-in) GO FOR IT!!!

Re: How to really help my husband?

Give him a couple of months patience, and definitely the AU will make him some where mid of 630s.. hopefully, he should get some cards then.
