So after being denied 33 days ago for Discover it Miles, I tried again today. I was prompted to call in and after putting me on hold I was told no. When I asked what she did that the computer couldn't handle I was told it was a secret because of the CARD act. So I asked which part of the CARD act was she upholding. She put me on another hold, came back and said it was still denied. Again, citing the CARD act she wouldn't share anything.
So I explained the pre approval I received a couple weeks ago for Discover it Cash and how I already had one. She clearly didn't see the irony - or stupidity in it. I'm fuming at this point and she starts to go into the magical letter they're mailing me. Why do these companies have any need for humans if they can't tell me something the computer cant??? Then they just read a line straight out of Comenitys play book. Good god, I hate these people.
What'd your letter say?
The application and phone call was today.

You are going to hate discover as much as i was hating amex few weeks ago lol . Everything is run by computer and algortihms. CSR really can't do anything
And my letter:
Good afternoon,
I would like to take a moment to share my experience with Discover when I applied (today 3/27/15) for your new Discover it Miles card. After the computer was unable to make a decision, I was prompted to call in and as usual, spoke to a friendly representative. My application was denied and from my understanding your company does not manually reconsider applications.
I realize the decision to extend credit - or in my case extend more credit - is highly complex and countless factors have to be taken into consideration. But my frustration comes from receiving a "pre-approved" offer to apply for your Discover it cash rewards card only a few weeks ago, when I already have one! When I called about product changing that card to your new card, I was simply told no.
Discover seems to solicit itself as a company that is highly in touch with it's Customer base, but this experience has frankly left me feeling like just another number. I have always had wonderful interactions with your front-line staff who Typically handle situations consistently. I appreciate that. Hopefully Discover can take steps in the future to more accurately identify "pre-approved" candidates - especially if they happen to be existing Customers.
Thank you for your time,
B335is
I agree i hate discover. Their CSR are nice but not very helpful at all. I have never been able to get anything out of them. And the fact they basically dont recon makes them even harder to deal with.

Way nice... I would mention being talked to like an ignorant credit person by citing a card act that doesn't exist for such things.
Banks have gotten away with BS for decades because so many people don't know... well people won't be able to ever know if banks are not held to accountability and honesty... ignorance IS NOT BLISS!

When the President of the Credit Card Division doesn't return the message, my approach won't be as friendly. I am so sick of the CARD act. They use it as an excuse for everything.

We are still talking about a credit card right?
No offense but turn on the news...your problems are not that bad. Just walk away, try again in the future or don't.
This is a credit forum. If you want to talk about the news, go start your own thread at cnn.
