I'm not comfortable with this from SDFCU

OK, I really do want the SDFCU Visa and was declined, but should be good by the first of next year. So I had to join the CUt o apply, so I thought I would go ahead and set up a checking and establish a little history with them. So the only way I could see to put money into my account was to link it to my main account where I bank, JSC FCU. I thought it would be like PayPal where they verify the link with small transactions, then you can add or pull money from it.

Well not even....I clicked to add the account and they want your login, password, it steps you through your security questions which you have to give them, they want you to resolve the encripta's so they can download your last 90 days of transaction?? Is this normal? does everyone turn over acess to the other accounts to anybody or is this not normal and don't give them control. I keep thinking it's the State Department, not Bob's Bank, so it should be OK, but then I'm thinking, it's the State Department!!! Maybe a CU with government ties is the last place I want to give access to all my financial resources. They want me to enter all my cards and resources so they can help me "Manage" my accounts?

I bailed on it and I just need feedback to go ahead, it's ok and normal, or do i need to go back to JSC and change all my passwords??

You're in the wrong spot for transfers, that is the setup for their Finance Works tool. Even if you set that up it will not allow transfers. The transfers setup is just like any other bank with the small deposits verification etc.

I was going to open an account with them but they were a pain in the rear. I opted for NFCU instead.

You have to really dig to figure things out, but I still want to get their card.

Thanks washpadude..... I thought that was awful intrusive just to setup a checking account!

Re: I'm not comfortable with this from SDFCU

Quite a few of my banks and credit unions have a financial section that pools your information if you want to use it. It's similar to using mint.com. It's just a tool that's all.
I've never set it up with SDFCU. I do have it with USAA and BofA. Neither works as well as mint though IMO. Still not seeing what's so special about SDFCU's CC. There are others with rates as low or lower and others with better rewards structure.

OK, I hadn't seen them...the lowest advertised I've seen is with my JSC at 6.9%, SD is 7.24% all others are at 8 +% or above (from what I've seen). I've only been looking at this for 2 months, so i know I need to be educated more. I also like the chip and pin, no BT or FTF's, some rewards, no AF etc.

Thanks for your input!

Check out the credit union thread. You'd be surprised with how many options are available.

Good luck with the hunt.

This is normal if you want to link all other accounts to SDFCU log in page.

I don't do this with SDFCU but I do use this feature with USAA. That way when I log in to USAA I can see all my bank accounts, credit products and retirement accounts on one screen.

I like having this capability and don't mind the fact that I have to provide log in information from other institutions. It's encrypted and private.

Thank you, that was basically what I needed to know, is this a normal thing and is it safe. I do have a lot of fun bouncing around all my sites checking on things, but it would be easier if everything was in one spot. But you don't feel vunerable at all? You don't think they can go in and snope all your numbers and info showing everything you buy and how much money you run through accounts?

I know I sound paranoid to all the veterans, but this just seems odd to me...

Thanks for the input!

I am not worried at all. I have a CC with USAA so they can easily look at my credit report to see all of the same credit products that I have on my log in page. And I am proud of my balances in my banks accounts so I wouldn't care if they saw those as well.

I come from the school of thought that anytime I do or say something in life someone else is going to find out about it. That way I don't stress.
