A better way to bring your UTIL down is to pay before the statement cuts rather than before the due date, so that when the statement balance is calculated (which is the number that gets reported to the CRA), it's a smaller number than it otherwise would be.
That way, you don't miss out on any rewards *and* your profile looks stronger when applying for credit.

About two months ago, I sent letters to all three bureaus challenging the number of "hard" pulls. Experian refused to remove any of them. Transunion removed every single one of them. And Equifax removed 2 out of 8. So that's why I have a 50-point difference between the three bureaus.
The number of inquires shouldn't drop it by that many points. It take 2-3 inquires before I see a few points drop in mine. It could be the 30% utuilization on the one card and even so thats a big drop.

JDT is absolutely correct. Find out the cut date on your card and pay the balance OR calculate how much to pay you need to pay before the cut date to bring your utilization down to 8% or lower.
This decline is not due to number of inquiries or utilization. A 628 score on Experian will get a decline 99/100 times for the ED card. OP, as earlier stated, hold off on applying until your score on EX is at least 660
I want the Blue Cash Everyday card in my wallet. I was approved for the regular Amex Everyday card and I was surprised. Though the CL is $500, I'll take it. I will follow the previous tips of waiting until I'm at least in the 660 Fico score range before trying for the Blue Cash. I don't want to take a chance at a denial or another Amex card with a low CL. I still have quite some repairing to do ![]()
Good luck on getting that Amex card OP ![]()
I also (as of last night) joined the Gold AMEX club. I have an EQ 653 and TU 625. I was previously denied for the AMEX Costco card about 6 months ago.
I had some baddies fall off my report over the last month or so.
I had an invite from AMEX (I' m guessing it was because I travellled a lot) and had a SkyMiles account with DELTA, not because of my credit score.
In any case my invite had expired so I tried it anyways for the heck of it and was approved ($1000). I am excited to have an premium class credit card.
The only card I want now is the Cap One Venture.
Consequently, since they did a hard pull I also applied for a Discover it and was approved and while shopping at Kohl's last weekend got approved also for $600
If you already generated a HP - I say go for it!

Hey everyone-
First time posting and new to the boards.
I thought I'd share some insight regarding the AmEx BCE card....
I just applied yesterday and got approved with a 15.5k limit. I do have a revolving balance on my IT card -- looking to do a balance transfer so I can pay it off fully by the end of the year. My UTIL % is just at 30% on that card, but just on that one. Nothing's on my other cards -- well some small charges, but they're paid in full each month.
My FICO was 777 when I looked on my file from my IT card, my Experian is 758 and TU is 746.
Just wanted to share my experience with everyone trying to get the card.
I'm pretty shocked I got approved so fast (email right after applying) and that the initial limit was so high. This is my first AmEx card, too.
That's a great CL and welcome to myFICO!
