Hey guy's,
I have a credit card dilemma on my hands. 🙃
I am ending a self imposed gardening period. No credit card app's in the past 10 months.
I have been plotting my next credit card moves for about 3 months now, and I have settled on TWO different US Bank credit cards in particular.
- US Bank CASH + #2 (already have one since 2019)
- US Bank SHIELD (with 24 month, 0% APR on purchases AND balance transfer offer)
I want each one for completely different reasons.
I'd really like to get both cards NOW, but I have a feeling that is not very realistic given their strict underwriting & computer algorithms.
I have a US Bank Smartly Checking account, but it's only been opened for two months.
Thinking about opening a Smartly Savings account, but will it even matter this close to my proposed application target date? (August 11th)
What's the latest word on the street for getting two US Bank credit cards in a short time frame? (2/12?) 😏
@sean31732 @If a bank looks at a checking account it is simply to see how well you manage your money. ie no no overdrafts, etc. A checking account that is not actively used has no value and with some banks it can be a negative. I do not know if US Bank looks at the checking account or not. You have a cash plus credit card with a 5 to 6 year payment history that will be a plus. My last two checking accounts I have opened have been after the credit card was approved. I would not have a checking account with banks or credit unions due to the ACH transfer limits for transfers that are initiated from that bank or credit union.
Is there a US Bank you can walk into to ask a CSR in person about this? Perhaps if you were to open a savings acct in person or even discuss the benefits of one & let them do a *soft* pull they may offer you at least one of those cards. At least sit down with them for a consulation, let them do their sales pitch for a cc sign up & see how far you can get them to go without a *hard* pull?
US Bank can be pretty strict; so trying to get two cards in a short window might be a stretch, even with a strong profile. Their system often flags multiple applications close together, and it can result in an auto-denial for the second one. If you really want both, spacing them out by at least a few months could improve your odds; especially since your Smartly Checking account is still new. That said, if you go for both now, just be ready for the possibility that one may be declined, and weigh whether it’s worth taking two hard pulls so close together.
