I've been attempting to get the SCT pop-up to appear on various sites (Overstock, Wayfair, J. Crew, etc.) to gauge my approval chances, but haven't been successful in getting the pop-ups. I'm sure it probably means that my profile isn't to Comenity's liking just yet (and I did burn them on a single card in my BK7), but of course I wasn't satisfied with leaving it so uncertain. So eventually I happened upon the IKEA Projekt Card's prequalification link and put in my information -- came back with prequalified with a $6000 CL! So that was a nice rush of validation without actually putting in a full application but I want to know, would this be a reasonable proxy for determining whether I might have favorable approval odds with other Comenity cards? While I love me some IKEA, I'd probably get better use out of Overstock or something else. Plus I've read all the disappointing stories of people getting decent prequal limits that are slashed to toy limits when they put in the actual application.
What's the appeal of Commenity? You do know you're playing with fire when you accumulate a ton of store cards with a single lender. Why not hold out for cards with major issuers that aren't captive to a single store?
I had the same thing, was prequal for $5500 but instead got for $3000
I haven't had any bad experiences with Comenity, but I would like to echo the whole beware of store cards. Based upon your scores I would look into Discover and Amex via their pre-qualified tools. Neither use TransUnion and you are likely to have success. Then you can ditch CreditOne.
I did the pre-qual just for the heck of it. If it was a solid offer for the Visa version, I'd jump on it but everyone seems to get a nerfed CL when they actually apply.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I'm not looking to load up on a bunch of retail cards -- there are plenty of cautionary tales on this forum to sway me from that path -- but there are some (Overstock and Wayfair in particular) which I would find useful for promotional financing purposes as well as somewhat-higher CLs for keeping overall utilization down. But I'm not getting quite the information I need, so let me ask a related question: does my IKEA prequalification mean that I'm not on a Comenity BL due to them being IIB? What I would hate to do is to submit a direct application to something like Overstock (because the SCT pop-up never shows up for me) and get straight-up denied due to being on a BL.
