Yikes! Sorry for your bad experience with them! That's horrendous! It's happened to me before too. Currently happening actually with Chase. Unfortunately not much can be done. Perhaps reach out to the CEO? ![]()

Haha, just about the only thing left, isn't it?
I'm not an expert of the different cards by any stretch, but with the CSR out now, I expected Amex to be looking at developing/recruiting new users. I did get my priority pass cards in the mail today- so I got that going for me.
The other obstacle or issue worth noting was the total miscommunication of their agents as to what current statuses were combined with a terrible attitude.
Maybe due to them having no control or ability to make decisions caused this. Meh.
Wow. That is a horrible experience you went through. They already initiated Financial Review on you right away. Most likely with your stated income and spend. I went through financial review with AMEX myself and I'm glad it wasn't a painful experience like you had to go through.
Citation,
Interesting process you have there with all the hoops, faxing, mailing, calls...... I haven't had any issues other than missing the check box before the signature on the 4506 on a CLI attempt over their threshold / length of open account. I'm willing to put money on the fact that you've done all of this and things will shake out on the other end eventually and you'll magically end up with a Platinum card in your mailbox in about 3 weeks.

What would trigger something like that? As a last hoorah, I just faxed them my employment contract in total stating/outlining all income, bonus, phone numbers, etc.
I don't think it mattered, it was before my last phone call to them.
I'm not exactly sure what triggers FR with AMEX. I can't find anything on here other than speculations and similarities to one's financial picture, etc. For myself, I still don't know. When i called them after my accounts were suspended, the financial review rep assigned to me sounded surprised at first that I also have the Business Platinum for about a month already and FR was just triggered after I activated and used the Personal Platinum. When she called me back couple weeks later to tell me my accounts are ok and had been unfrozen (which I already knew after I logged in online and didn't see the charging suspended notice on top), I tried to pry some answers from her what could have triggered it. She couldn't tell me anything whatsoever. I still don't know and may never find out like everyone else.
Good luck to you. I say don't give up if you really want it. Try to look at my posts and you'll see the ridiculous amount of sending app after app with AMEX until I got it. I still think they approved me on some of them just to get me off their back and stop sending app after app.
Sorry to hear your experience with Amex. You mentioned that you have an old account but not used credit cards in years.... this is about the only thing that I could imagine to trigger an income verification by requesting tax return. Any activity on your credit report recently? What is on your credit report other than that old cc? Congrats to your CSR approval. Looks like a decent card to me
As for Chase, do you bank with them ? The US credit system is unfortunately a bit unfair. People that always pay cash and have no debt or do not use credit do not get the credit history. For this you need to use the cards and show activity on your report. Do you know your scores? Have you checked your reports? Any info not accurate on it?
Sounds like both a FR and identity verification. I went through the same thing with AMEX when I first applied for credit cards from them after living a cash existence for more than a few years. I had to go to a bank and have a copy of my driver licence and a utility bill notarized and faxed from the bank. AMEX then called the bank for further verification while I was standing there with the bank person who notarized the documents. It was definitely a hassle but I have not had any problems since then. I did it at a local credit union that did all that for free.
