Is Citi still very inquiry sensitive?

I have a credit score of over 800 with a decade of credit history and no baddies ever. I first applied for the double cash in November 2020 but was denied for too many recent inquires, I think I'd had 6 within the last 12 months.

I applied for the double cash again in December 2022 with only 1 inquiry on my report which was an inquiry from the day before. I was denied just due to that inquiry.

I had another inquiry a couple days ago which was my first inquiry since then. If I apply for the double cash again now would I still likely be denied due to the recent inquiry? Seems Citi really does like me lol

yes, pretty sure citi will deny for any inquires within the last ~10 days?

I'd wait until you were at least 0/6, if not 0/12.

0/3 if you want to push it

I don't get why they're so inquiry sensitive.

They've been somewhat sensitive to inquiries and new accounts for years which in part manifested itself with their fairly hard 6 inquiries in 6 months (i.e. the 6/6) rule, and even before the pandemic started that 6 inquiry threshold was a best case senario.  Like just about everyone else they've tightened things up in response to the current trend of increasing overall CC debt being carried and the uptick in defaults.

One could argue the 1.13 Trillion credit card debt and 59% delinquency could have something to do with it. People are over extending themselves and banks are tightening up.

Yeah that may be true but we are people who like to PIF and just reap the rewards and I'm sure a lot of other people do too. I would expect a lender to mainly look at credit score and payment history, not something as silly as inquires.

Re: Is Citi still very inquiry sensitive?

@rgd51  unfortunately inquiries are an indiciation of credit seeking and "aggressive" credit seeking behavior at that. You must understand banks assess risk. it is their job.

That said, in an inflationary environment, I can see why the banks would focus on new accounts and inquiries.

citi is still VERY inq sensitive.

i applied with 2/6 months eq 3/6 months tu &exp and was denied for two inquiry related reasons LOL "too many inqs WERE recorded on your CR" and "too many inqs ARE recorded on your CR"

LOL @CreditPoor  5.9% I thnk you mean? and btw, the banks are MORE than being compensated for increased delinquency. look at their profits. increased interest rates are meant to cause decrease in consumption so it's an intended consequence. Resources are limited but our currency is not.

Re: Is Citi still very inquiry sensitive?

I am 3/6 in inquiries with Citi, and they wont give me a CLI because of the inquiries.

Re: Is Citi still very inquiry sensitive?

Sometimes it's best to just steer clear of a bank that obviously doesn't want your business.   Apply for the Wells Fargo Active Cash Card, which is better in many ways, and tell us  how it works out.
