Is Discover still countering w/ secured?

Anyone know if they'll still counter with the secured card if you don't qualify for the unsecured... now that you can apply for the secured directly?

Thanks.

If declined for an unsecured card they may say something about the secured as an option, but the exclusivity of the counter offer is probably gone since it's now an open to all app.

Anyone know for sure? Based on recent posts on here I could see myself being approved for either... but dont wan't to potentially waste 2 HPs if not approved for unsecured. I've asked on the Discover live chat but don't get a clear answer.

Re: Is Discover still countering w/ secured?

I was denied for the Discover card yesterday and asked for a joint applicant. I called ther backdoor number today to see if they can offer me a secured card, but the lady told me I have to go to their website to apply for the secured card.

I am going to wait another 6 months to reapply. Already got all the cards I wanted at this stage except for Discover.

Just as a side note Discover offered the secured counter when you applied for the student version of the it card and were declined and not the standard it.

Not True! When I was denied online last year, I applied for the Discover It card, not the Student version. I immediately got the offer for the secured card. I went ahead and took the offer and my card just graduated this month.....exactly one year and one month later.

No, however they will use your original app for review of the Secured card without an additional HP if you app for the secured card shortly after your original app. This is what I did and was approved after 5 business days.

I applied for teh syudent version and did not get a counter offer for teh secured card. I had to reapply and they used the original HP from the first app for the secured card app.
