It can be, depending on the products you are looking for.

The short answer is Yes. USAA is definitely worth it.

Besides credit card and loan products, USAA is most

famous for their insurance products. I'm sure you've

seen their TV ads. They are extremely loyal to those

who serve, and their customer service ranks among

the best in the industry. One word of caution: USAA is

very conservative. I've been a USAA member for over

8 years, and I must say it's been among the best decisions

I've ever made for myself and for my family. Just my 2 cents.

P.S. USAA hard pulls Experian.

Re: Is USAA worth applying for?

USAA & NFCU are not open to everyone, so if you are someone that qualifies, than YES, absolutely open some checking accounts and start your relationship with them now. Just throw $100 or even $20 in each account. They both have "no fees" checking accounts.

IMHO, USAA's current card worth having is their 5% CB on gas AMEX. NFCU's current line-up is so-so. But you never know when a future, new card will come on the market by either of these two.

Re: Is USAA worth applying for?

Right now I need to lower my utilization so I was looking for liberal high limit cards like NFCU. Do they give high limits?

What's your current utilization?  One tends to get higher limits when one's profile supports it.  Do you already have high limit cards reporting on your credit report?

Re: Is USAA worth applying for? I have cards as high as 25k limits.

My UT is 48%. That's my only weak point.

I agree that the USAA Amex probably fits the needs you expressed.

BTW, if you're looking for another credit union that offers high limits,

then State Department Federal Credit Union might be worth your time.

Their CC limits go up to 100k, and they offer a 2% cash back card on

all qualifying purchases with no annual fee. If you're curious, then do

a quick search and check them out. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much. I joined that one and NFCU. Any others?
