Is it bad to....

Is it bad to do the prequalify applications for credit cards if you aren't wanting your credit affected but are curious to see what pops up as a possibility?

Re: Is it bad to....

Should not make any difference since most all "prequalify" forms do a soft pull NOT a hard pull - most say right on the form that this application (per se) will NOT affect your credit score. Those that will actually pull your credit should ask for "permission" to pull your credit report.

Thank you. I am itchy to hit any button but don't want to mess anything up in the process.

So, did a pre for Amex and it came back with Amex Everyday, Blue Cash Everyday and Green Card.

Hmmm........

Thoughts?

Re: Is it bad to....

That has me hesitating. I thought I was still in rough shape by a lot but this has me wondering if I have bumped far more than I could have hoped. NFCU plat is only card I have at 2.5 years old and was maxed until this last billing cycle where I dropped it to 4%. TU last updated on 1/4/18 (showing max as NFCU reported on the 5th) had me sitting at 471. Did bringing my util down bump me far enough this quickly for the pre qualify to really hold ground? NFCU won't update the Fico until March 5th and I have been hesitating on purchasing a plan just yet. Or I am just fooling myself and the pre qualify app is malfunctioning?

Do you get a solid APR on the revolvers?

Re: Is it bad to....

Eeeek!!!!

I jumped and checked my Fico scores for $1 with Credit Check Total.

NFCU update on 1/4/18 had my fico at 471. As of right now TU is 635, EX 644 and EQ 642!!!! The Amex Pre was accurate!

I have decided I want to get the BCP from Amex. Thinking to do a CLI on NFCU in March after the AR for a hopeful soft cli, ask for the CLOC (would that still be a soft with the AR?) and then apply for Amex either then or in May...??? Will my scores be high enough to get this all done. How much are they going to continue to go up from experience keeping on my plan and having low util?

Re: Is it bad to....

Sounds like you would be put onto their verion of credit steps. SL $500 with a CLI after the 6th statement/7th payment.

If you do choose to wait, and you work on increaseing your scores a bit more, you could end up with a welcome offer and higher SL.
