Is there any rhyme or reason or restrictions with getting SP CLI from Citi

A month or so ago I got a SP CLI wordage from Citi and its already back?

Should I bother? or is this just a ruse?

Thought there was 6 mo between CLIs... Frankly im almost tempted to take an HP

More than likely it may be declined with a general outcome of having received a CLI in less than 6 months. It won't reset the CLI clock, though. You can definitely try it to see what it yields since it'll be SP.

It's fairly rare when CITI grants a 2nd CLI (via SP) of having received one in less than 6 months. Now, via HP is another story.

Not knowing your particulars, I couln't say whether it would benefit or not. But personally I wouldn't waste a HP for a Citi CLI, not when SPs come every 6 months. Now if they double my CL, then i'd defintely consider it. lol

I've tried that before, and it always resulted in a decline; both times the letter stated that it was due to my having been granted a increase recently (not exact wording, but something to that effect).  Smiley Sad

Re: Is there any rhyme or reason or restrictions with getting SP CLI from Citi

Kinda figured as much...

Just thought it was a bit odd it would be back so quickly....

Yeah.. Ill set the calendar for 6 mo and wait until then...

As to the person saying HPs aren't worth it.....

Like anything else they can be hit or miss. But i would be willing to take the risk if theres a decent chance of a good approval...

Im really not in a rush and will likely just take the next SP when it comes.....

Credit is very fluid, whats true now, may not be in a few months... And im considering pruning some cards but I want to have something to fill in for them completely... My initial CL was just slightly dissapointing.. now with the one SP im pretty set for a bit... and could close a card or two.... I wasn't going to with the initial CL..  So seeing another SP offer I was like.. This is promising but have had contradictory stories in the past... Really have to thank MyFico for keeping my expectations within reason, and suggesting when to hit, and when to stand.....

Also attempting to learn from some others mistakes... Just want to change my tactics and playbook a bit....

Things iv learned

Less can be more..... patience is usually rewarding.. and sometimes you cant predict whats next......and listening can avoid some missteps and avoid a situation you dont want to deal with or doesn't help you out...

Savings at first seems a bit pointless and unrewarding, but it can pay off when ..... hits the oscillating device..

And you can make savings more palatable with some homework...

Its like any other tool.. but its one tool that can open doors in places other than the ones you usually expect....

But like anything else, it can be abused, misused, and overused....but one should not be ashamed or embarassed if they get into a bind, but figure out what caused it and work at it untill its fixed or at least in a better place..

Not everyone gets those famous sp cli . I have had my Citi DC for 2 years and they won't give me even one. I have had the sp language  for 2 months now and I know I'm past 6 months since my only increase and they still won't give it. Not a fan right now Smiley Wink

Jolt, if they do give you one, 6 months you gotta wait. If patience isn't a word you want right now you could try a hp but to me that's a 50/50 proposition.

Re: Is there any rhyme or reason or restrictions with getting SP CLI from Citi

1. What was SL?

2. What was the last CLI amount, current CL?

3. AAOA?

4. Income?

5. Score?

6. Any negatives?

7. Utilization?

8. What's your expected new CL?

In 6 months, if you do not get the CL you're expecting. OR even now, with a HP, you might just call them and talk. Explain why you need a higher CL, replacing an older CC, larger cushion for Util etc. Speaking to a human has depth that is lost on an automated response.

Re: Is there any rhyme or reason or restrictions with getting SP CLI from Citi

I was reading this thread http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Card-Applications/Citi-DC-SP-CLI-Declined/m-p/5234793#M196904

and went to check the wording on my Citi accounts. I have:

Thank You Preferred $3500CL - one of my oldest cards. It PC'd from something during/after CLD in 2008-ish. I've had it from 2001-ish. Never tried for a CLI since it's been sock drawered for as long as I can remember.

Has SP wording

DC $23k - PC'd from a DP several years ago. Did a HP a few years ago to $15k and recently a SP to $23k. May have been 2 months, may have been 6. I don't know and haven't tried to check. It was my daily driver up until a couple months ago.

Has SP wording

Costco $3600 - transferred from Amex, another card I've had for one of the longest. Had an auto CLI after about the first year of Amex but nothing since

Has HP wording

I would have done the SP if the Costco had it. No biggie, but have others found that cards that came from Amex are wonky?
