I'm genuinely sorry it didn't work out, but of all the banks Barclay's has to be the absolute squirreliest. 
(Disclaimer: They are the only lender that I'm currently blacklisted with, or rather I was the last time I applied a few years ago. I've not bothered to check again, and I actually feel better without them in my wallet.)
All that said, if you really want it at least you know the path to take and it's within reach, although I tend to agree that you can (and already have) done much better. It's their loss for sure (I'll never understand their underwriting).
I know the JB points would have been nice, but at least you don't have to bother looking over your shoulder!
