AU is calling and boom...be gone.
Joint may require the remaining party to either:
A) Be re-evaluated to be credit worthy of retaining the account on their own
B) Close the whole thing down.
That's fairly accurate. But either way it's the same for the non-offending party...
If you're the "good user"
- as the AU - just dispute as "not mine" and it's gone from reports
- as the Primary User - one call/chat/SM and they're no longer an AU, but you're still responsible for any activity up to that point
- as a joint holder - one call/chat/SM and you're removed from any future responsibility for the card, but you're still responsible for any activity up to that point
If you're the "bad user"
- as the AU - you have no power, the Primary User can cut you off at any time
- as the Primary User - your AU can just dispute as "not mine" and it's gone from reports, but you're still responsible for any activity up to that point
- as a joint holder - if the other joint holder withdraws from the account, the card's most likely going to be shut down as you won't qualify alone, but you're still responsible for any activity up to that point
Which seems like a better tool to teach a child responsibility?
If she runs up her AU cards she gets off scott-free on her reports no matter what.
If she runs up the joint card, she'll have to suffer through as much "credit report pain" as I'm willing to tolerate myself to help educate her.
