Just joined NFCU! Thinking about applying for a CC

Just got the membership approval and opened a savings and checking.

Decided to do a Pre-Qualification for a CC, and I was offered a Secured Card.

I had JUST thawed my TU reports maybe 5 minutes before it.

My TU scores should be:

F8 - 630

F9 - 661

I have read people that got just the secured offering, and went to app a unsecured card and get approved. But I think I'm going to wait a couple of weeks until a few of my balances will report 0, so my UTL will be under 5%.

Currently 39%.

The prequal is inaccurate. Don't trust it. That said, lower utilization is always better. Good luck on your future app.

As mentioned upthread, the NFCU pre-qualifications are not 100% guaranteed. Take a look at this recent thread + the image (i.e. disclosure)

As MUCH as I'm itching to do it RIGHT NOW, I understand that in just 3 short weeks, things will be much better, so patience, but after 2 of my CC's report their new balance, it's ON!

You definitely want to wait for your utilization to go down, and see where your scores are then.

Best card FIRST card for NFCU?

So I plan on apping for my first NFCU CC  in about a month. Just got my membership this week, as I've set up direct deposit, and sponsored my wife.

So my long term goal is this:

I want a high limit Platinum card at a low APR, so I can use this my AZEO card between all of my cards.

So I've seen that NFCU can be conservative with your first card, and then reward you on your 2nd card.

I don't see the need for having MULTIPLE CC's with NFCU, but can I app for the same card twice OR just apply for the card I want and request CLI's every 91/3 or 6 months of approved?

Re: Best card FIRST card for NFCU?

@GoHooterGo- two threads have been merged on basically the same topic (NFCU). Please refrain from cross-posting and/or creating multiple threads on basically the same topic as it is against the myFICO Forums TOS and it can lead to confusion by the community. Thanks.
