Learned a Lesson Today

Applied for my second round of cards this week. Already have the CSP, Amex BCE, and NFCU, after starting my rebuild last July with a couple secured cards. Scores started in the 400's. Got them to the 700's. Went on a mini app spree. BofA, Cap1 QS1, Barclays NFL, and WF Propel. My lesson? In most cases, but especially for a new comer like me, RELATIONSHIPS MATTER. Was quickly approved for the QS1 for 5k, probably bc Cap1 was my first secured CC and I've never not PIF. WF Propel was pending, but that was only until I proved my mailing address. Then I was approved for 3.5k. However, I bank there. The other two? HARD NO's. Called to recon twice a day for three days. Got the same answer every time: You have 11 inquiries within nine months, quite a few brand new cards, and zero relationship with our bank. So my newbie lesson of the day is: even if you have a solid credit score with pretty high lines of credit and zero blemishes, if your AAoA is 6 months and your INQ is high, the only thing that will save you is the relationship you built with them earlier. And with that, I'll be gardening until the next olympics.

Started on July 4th, 2016 with 400's FAKO scores, no FICO, a dozen baddies and no credit of any kind.

As of March 2018, Before The Fall:

JUNE 2023 UPDATE
2020: COVID toppled me. All old accounts went into default. Business lost. Car repossessed.
2021: Cap1 let me back in (one secured/two not). Secured Mission Lane. AU on AMEX Gold, Citi Premier and Chase Sapphire. Car loan approved without cosigner for $20,000. All current.
Currently: No lawsuits. Thinking most SOL have expired on CC debt. Fingers crossed my math and memory are correct.

CURRENT SITUATION:

Capital One Secured: $300
Capital One QS1: $300
Capital One Savor: $1,000

Re: Learned a Lesson Today

I wholeheartedly agree with everything based upon my experience yesterday with my first app spree. I also agree with the Olympics. Time for my new self to water some of the seeds I planted for a long, long time.
