Legacy Visa is a waste of time

They bait you into a hard pull on your report. Sending you false pre-quals in the mail, then hitting you with an HP. So I called them about the hp, and the woman goes on her typical *read off script* speech about how I was pre-approved based on my credit file from creditors. I said that's not true, if you still needed a hard pull on my report. She then tweaked her initial response with, I was pre-approved from my name given to them by the creditors, and they needed to access my report to see if I can be approved. I responded, then you guys are liars, and you bait people into hard pulls with your subprime CC and false pre-qual letters. At this point she realized I wasn't (average Joe) and her demeanor changed into frustration. So for more kicks, I continued to see how much she knew, and asked her, "Okay since the card is being processed now, can I decline it when it arrives by not activating the account?"  She literally tells me that once they charge their $75 that the card is activated. LOL  I said, have you ever gotten a credit card before? What card have you gotten that is activated through the mail?

After about 10 minutes of me talking to a script reader, I told her to cancel the so-called pre-qual immediately, so that I can seek removal of the inquiry they put on my report. They pulled TU by the way, and I'm in no need of another subprime, although they claim you can receive up to $1500. More times than not they will give you the minimum, which in their case is $350. How I got to that point to begin with, was me trying to see what they would extend me based on my profile, and then decline the offer. When I got to the SSN part, I should've went with my gut telling me, this is where they fool you. Full SSN and not the typical last four digits.

Ummm I think you are the one that is misinformed here... I do not know of a single company that sends mail pre-quals that don't do a hard pull when you actually apply. Amex, chase, Discover, Cap1 all will do a HP even if you have a prequal. They do this since your report may have changed since the SP they did to generate the prequal. every time you apply for credit you should expect a HP even with the SCT.

Also the rep was sorta correct, once you are approve an account is made and activating the card has nothing to do with the account being created or them being able to report it to CRA.

Re: Legacy Visa is a waste of time

+1 Most soft pulls are the preapprovals, the hard pull is the final decision. that is how i see it, and that is it 99% of the time. The SCT is a TRICK thats been around 4 years. It cant last forever.. Once in a while people get TWO cards with one HARD pull from same company, but every new account especially with a bank is a hard pull. The card is inactive for mail fraud protection, but your account was active and reportable as such the second it spit out approved.

Re: Legacy Visa is a waste of time

I got that one in the mail today and in the shreddar it went. Anytime a prequalified mailed starts with "can recieve up to 1500" and "most cutomers recieve a and intial credit limit of 350" Its garbage. And like others said a final decsion will result in a HP.

This card is Pure garbage. if you read the back it says there is a 75$ annual fee, 20$ annual fee if you have an Authorized user, and a "setup maintenance fee" These crappy cards probably make the majority of there profit off their fees they charge rather than the intrest because the limits are so low, most people PIF anyways.

Re: Legacy Visa is a waste of time

Well sorry but we're gonna have a disagreement then, and no I'm not misinformed. I received TWO pre-quals with my First Premiers, and NEITHER hard pulled meWhether people like those cards or not, but to tell me I'm misinformed is way off base. So we have two different experiences, then neither would be incorrect, and it would appear to be up to the lender/creditor.

I did read the back, and if you read my post I wasn't going to accept the card, I wanted to see what they were extending. Yes I do agree, the card is a subprime. I stated that also.

I never got extended credit without a HP, unless it was a SCT and even then 99% of the time I didn't know the limit prior to doing it. LOL.

Maybe thats a FP thing. IDK hopefully they take the HP back GL Smiley Happy

Could be. Just looked and Credit One never showed up either, and I didn't hard app any of those. They were all rebuild offers. All the hard apps show up though. Maybe I got lucky! LOL

I have to agree with you on the Credit One and First Premier sending the prequals and no hard pull every showed up, that's good given their reputation that they hold up to what they have printed on the pre-quals. You're doing right on the Legacy card by closing it, that was one of my first cards back in my early 20's and that was one that was written off because of their fee piling tactics. They used to hold charges and as soon as I made a payment to zero out the card, the charge hit and then interest was immediate on the following statement even if I zeroed out the balance immediately again and back then they charged like $10/$15 to make a payment by phone.

I have never had FP or any other subprime cards so I will take your word on how they appove people. Do you actually have a source that indicated this specific lender will not HP you? Just because one subprime lender (FP) will approved you without a HP doesn't mean every (sub prime) lender will do the same.Good luck in trying to get the HP removed since you actually gave them permission to pull your credit.

You really need to get out of this mindset that you can apply, not get HP and have the option of declining the account, this is not how it works once you get past subprime scores.

I do agree this card sounds horrible.
