The exact same thing happened to me about 4 weeks ago. App'ed for the Chase Amazon card and got denied. A few recon's later I was told by the rep she put me in for approval but a Senior Lender had to look at it, but again she put it thru to be approved. I thought for sure it would be approved. Well no go, and I was bummed. That was for me though, and I hope the best for you.

Ok. Update. Well i spoke with a credit analyst, and he informed me of the CO with WAMU back in 2007, which they took over because I said I've never had an account with Chase. I said what can I do to get back in your good graces? So he said we can reconsider, if that's something you would like to do. On hold for about 5 minutes, came back, asked me questions about income, rent, you know the usual stuff. On hold for another 5 minutes, which seemed like an hour, came back and said he put me in for an approval, but it had to be looked at by a Senior Lender, and I would hear back in about 5-7 buisness days. The suspense is already killing me!
I hope they come back with some very good news for you! Looking forward to hearing!

Well, got another letter, basically said the same thing and too many inquiries. So gardening it is. Maybe I can get back in with Chase a few years down the road
@Anonymous,
Sorry to hear... Yes, garden for a while and one day Chase will let you in.
