I feel your pain OP. Got the same problem with BoA.
@Anonymous wrote:I don't think your scores are that bad. I bank with Chase and I've never been pre-approved for any of their cards either. I don't think your banking with Chase is a huge factor in getting a cc or not. They look at your credit report. Not your checking and savings accounts. I'd say continue to focus on building your credit. You also never mentioned what Chase cc you're interested in?
Hi Just my experience Chase does look at your banking history if you have a checking and savings and other accounts and they do take those into account when making decsions. Here is mine, I have been banking with them since 1995 right out of highschool and my current salary is 94k year base excluding bonus and stock options. Chase has all of this has seen every check deposited, About 3 years ago I had two negative balances becasue did not opt in to the auto withdraw from savings for overdraft protection and I would transfer manually well I didn't and got those on my account and they were paid same day. Anyway I applied for the reserve and it went into 7 day message I called back an spoke with them the first thing the guy says from underwritting is that he will look over my credit report, checking account to make sure there were no overdrawn issues, total deposits made monthly and spending monthly, outgoing bill payments, and same with savings. I asked why would that matter he says it one it shows us a real picture vs credit reporting which is not always up to date but if you bank with them they can see who and how much you are paying others by whats coming out of your account. He said it can good and bad depending on situations, needless to say I was approved with a 20k limit but I had to explain about the 2 overdraft issues.
I think Chase does not pay any atention to their regular checking/savings clients. My daughter banks with them and earns well over $250K per year. When she got divorced she had to do a short sale on her house. (about 6 years ago) She now has scores over 700 and new husband an Amex Card and Cap 1 QS. She has applied with them twice including just a few months ago for a Chase card instant decline. I would have thought Chase wanted her as a client.

She should change her bank. Bank of America gave me a card when my score was 520.
They have branches by her work, her house and new husband ofice . I already tried to talk to her about changing to any one of several banks but she won't
Have you asked for offers in-branch? I've never had a preapproval online, but in-branch I got the 300/500 offer to get the FU. I've been told by several sources that this means prequal, though when I saw the banker's screen at the time, it didn't say prequal. I suspect this is because I'm < 21, but the moral of the story is that there are good offers in the branches haha.
EDIT: That still wasn't an insta-approval. I only had my 6 month old Disco at the time, so the 30 day was not surprising.

I've banked with Chase now for over 7yrs.
Have never been pre-qualified for anything.
I applied for the Freedom 3yrs ago and was approved for a $500 SL. 3yrs later, it still sits at $500.
About 2 months ago when all 3 of my scores got above 700, I applied for the Freedom unlimited.
Got a $2k SL.
Here I sit, with all scores above 759, one close to 800 and never get pre-qualified mailers or ever show anything I'm pre-qualified for.
It tells me that scores mean very little anymore and just want rich people who make over $100k a year to get the good limits.
Good luck on your journey
My wife got two cards with them this year one with a 27k limit and one with a 25k limit and she has no banking relationship with them. I am not a fan of Chase as they have treated me badly in the past. I wouldn't have anything to do with them but they have some good partners.
OP update here.... I went ahead and app'ed for a Freedom card, while still showing no pre-quals, and got approved for a $500 initial line. it's a little discouraging to see comments in this thread about Freedom cards not getting CLI but I'm hoping this is a "foot in the door" with Chase.
